I'm buying a Philips 32in HD-ready TV, but for the moment only have a rather nice but non-HD Sony DVD player. It has a coaxial digital out for Dolby digital/DBS etc. Can I get an HDMI cable to connect from this to the HD LCD? And should I bother?

If it will offer no difference to Scart because it is not an HD player then I'd rather save my cash until I get one.

Thanks in advance for the advice

The co-ax out is audio only. To improve the video quality you could go down the route of component progressive if that is available on the DVD player. Else just check your DVD is sending RGB not composite (default in most cases) and 16:9 not some 4:3 format. Do not use cheap Scart cables.
