I need to purchase a HDMI lead, so that sky HD can be viewed in another room of the house. The cable needs to be 15 meters long. My problem is that looking at the prices of the HDMI cables they vary a lot. Due to this please may you recommend a brand and the sort of money I should be spending on this cable?
    Thanks

Not trying to be awkward but you really need to do a search of this forum for HDMI leads, there are hundreds of posts on this topic, including a lengthy debate on the merits of paying for an expensive one. You could start with this one:

Can't you use component? I get a stunning HD picture on a second TV.

What do you mean by a component?

    Thanks

Derek's suggesting that instead of HDMI you use the component outputs from the Sky box. They are three phono-type outlets coloured red green and blue, and provide an analogue HD picture signal through wires similar to those you use to connect up your audio equipment. This might be an easier way to get good HD than a long HDMI cable. Remember though that they only carry image - for sound you'd also need a pair of phono cables.

That's interesting. I imagined they'd continue to use the old boxes refurbished for a good while before using the new ones for swaps.

when you say about veiwing SKY HD in another room of your house.. do you also mean you want to see the SKY HD in the same room as your HD box at the same time ? all hdmi cables have been found to do the same job... expensive or inexpensive... they all carry a digital signal mate...

While personally I agree with that, I suggested the OP do a search as there was still sufficient disagreement that he needed to read the threads and make his own mind up.

What's the version number of the box? Component-less Thomson boxes shouldn't be 'in the wild' AFAIK.

From what I have heard the new Pace boxes will not have component outputs, all to do with HSCP compliance for which you need an HDMI cable - this is to stop copying of programmes.

Also there is supposed to be a Samsung box in testing but I'm not sure if this has been comfimed.

Holy_Pilgrim, Do you have a make/model number for this new box?

yes, and we were told that they'd been released early and to pass custoemrs with these boxes to our higher tech dept. not sure what happened after that or if the boxes were replaced or what but only that they'd been released ahead of time and shouldn't have been.
