Apologies for the naive question, but when recording something to the hard disc on machine like the Panny DMREH60D can i watch something else already recorded on the HDD at the same time or can I only watch from the DVD.

    TIA

    Al

Yes, you can watch another title from HDD while recording to HDD at the same time.

Does this apply to the Pioneer 530 also or is it just a feature of the Panny?
    Thanks

Plus you can play back the recording WHILST you are recording it ("Chasing playback").

I use this whilst watching Lost or Deadwood, which seemed to be packed full of adverts.

Hit record. Give it a 20 min headstart (go and make a cup of tea) and then hit play. Then you can fast forward though the ads as you catch up to the recording point.

Does that also mean that whilst recording onto the hard drive you can also copy from hard drive to dvd

Certainly with all the major brands you can watch one HD recording while recording something else. Probably with others as well.
Or you can watch the current recording as RAB67 described
Or you can watch a DVD while recording to HD - not sure about vice versa
Not sure about the copying. I never tried that.

on my pioneer 530 you can watch program 1 off the HD whilst prog 1 is reocording to HD but as a PC man i think of all the head movements needed so dont usually bother
+ you can watch the beginning of the prog your recording as well

    havent tried similar with DVD

Have to say - hardly use the dvd at all - everything is HD and eventually wipe - its like having a VCR with an endless amount of Tapes inside it

    :)

it has 2 heads - so don't worry about it - you're missing out on the main benefit

My Sony HX 900 won't allow you to do anything when you are dubbing from HDD to DVD or vice versa. However, anything else goes.
