Do you require a receiver with HDCD playback capabilities or do you just require a CD or DVD player that can pass HDCD signal?

As you can see, I'm confused....

HDCD works on the priciple that somewhere in the player there is a chip that will 'decode' the normal 44.1khz 16bit data into (I think) 20bit data. This is done inside the player as far as I know, as there are no HDCD compatable digital amps etc.
This means you will need a stereo phono connection to hear the difference, I think.

    Anyone know anything else?
