this is my first post here.

I'm getting a new dvd player and I wanted one that played sacd and dvd-audio. In my price range it seems to be between the pioneer dv575 and the samsung hd950. Which of the two is concidered the better machine and why. I will be buying a region 2 PAL player but dose any one know if either can play ntcs native i.e. not as PAL 60 converted. Is there any other player around the same price that I should look at?

thanks for in advance for taking the time to help out a noob

what screen do you own? do you have HDMI , DVI , component inputs ??
i had had a 575 and i couldnt find a better picture for the price, i my experience, because a dvd player up-scales to HD it doesnt mean the picture will be better, as it image is scaled twice (once in the player then again on screen).
the pioneer doesnt up-scale but has component video, and the image is spot on, and personally i think the pioneers are are just better all-round players.

you could try getting a demo of both of them

It only scales twice if you upscale the image to a res which isn't the native res of the screen. Upscaling to 720p for example in the DVD player and feeding to a 720 native res display means that the display will not scale the pic.

Either way I'd still go for the 575...PJ
