42" XGA and 50" are due in today at quite a few places. Of course this is Panasonic so that could also mean at any random point between now and Christmas!!

Still one or two 50PHD7s around, but suppliers have been clever to run down stocks just right so there aren't that many panicking to dump old stock at a low price. Worth a ring round I guess, but you might find the saving does not compare well to the advantage of the 8 series having a working HDMI board!

Actually I think I'm lying, I've just spoken to a guy who is clearing out 50" PHD7 (no 42 tho) which are at quite a good price.

nooo too expensive the 50 8

did your bloke make a decision ?

ill keep hunting for a 50 inch 7 and have silver if it has to be, problem is the 8 series has been such a let down even though its not out yet, so the 7 in 42 is my second choice i guese. The only two redeeming features of the 8 now are 2 years warranty out of the box and component via vga

THere is nothing within HDMI spec to force a native res input at 50Hz - absolutely no other screen available does it via HDMI. Only the MXE1 via it's non-HDCP DVI socket.

Totally agreed it's still a kick in the knackers for scaler/HTPC users, if anything Panasonic should review a new DVI card. THey won't, but they should.

Still waiting for report on yesterdays 42 and 50 HD deliveries :suicide: My moneys on sometime next week lol!!!

These manufacturers are starting to really frustrate when they book in a delivery date for a large order (so you make the space available, ensure enough people are at hand to sort it out, and give out customer delivery times accordingly) but think it is an OK practice to just cancel on the day. No warning, in fact no official cancellation until you chase them up!! Worse still to cancel on the day, and then leave no updated eta. I had this with panny once last year where it went on a month....

Thanks MAW. So impatient are we? I have been very interested by another thread re: the Pioneer MXE-1 new HDMI/HDCP board. Will I still go PHD8 +/- Scaler or is it worth considering this option.

yes - same question, same decision here ... MXE-1 with HDMI board or PHD-8 and waiting for a Pana HDMI 1.2 board which supports native resolution and 50 Hz

.....but will this ever happen..... PANASONIC ?

It's another new week and I'll wager a small sum that there's no news from Panny ref the PHD8s

Can imagine a creative line in excuses as to why they've failed to show up...

"We were going to deliver the PHD8s but...

    (1) The delivery guy stubbed his toe on a crate of satsumas in the warehouse
    (2) Couldn't get any diesel due to the fuel crisis
    (3) Our bezels aren't back from the car body shop where they're being sprayed silver"

    etc. etc.

Really not great customer service, eh...

Tomorrow apparently. I'm guessing likely Friday. But then it's waiting for HDMI cards.

Then I've gotta put one through it's paces since the brochure says the new HDMI card won't do native res at any refresh, but somehow the old DVI card will do 720p at 50Hz!!!

Not likely native, but I do worry that one card will do HD, another native, but neither both!! I'm sure all will come out in the wash, but GOD DAMMIT PANASONIC.
