Hi, im thinking of bying the HD5 but i'd really love some feedback on it.
It seems the display is large than the HD3 ?
And, can you use VAIO Music Transfer software for transferring mp3 to it? (As you can with HD3).

as far as i know, the hd5 and hd3 both have 7 line displays. though the hd5 is easier to read because of the more intense backlight.

the hd5 is smaller than the hd3. it has a credit card sized footprint.

yes, ive heard (head-fi.org) that the vaio tranfer software will work for the hd5...but u may have to use an older version of sonicstage.

vaio transfer does work but you need to have sonicstage on your computer as it has the required codecs for transfer to do its work.

the display is larger than the hd3

dont mean to hijack your thread, but i didnt want to make a whole new thread for my hd5 question

the manual says hd5 charge time is 3 hours using usb and 6 hours using the a/c adapter.

    why?

USB usually outputs 100mA, I think an appliance can draw 500mA from it absolute tops. But the mains adapter is rated 800mA -- so around twice the capacity on average.

The slower USB charge might be better for the battery as it will produce less heat, not that I would bother with a USB charge.

USB (1 or 2) will only supply 500mA so it looks like the answer to the question is because there's a typo in the manual/question.

As the DC adapter is rated 6v/800mA and a USB port is 5v/500mA, charging over the USB port will take longer.

Good spot -- I don't have the manual handy to check.

I can confirm this, plus the manual says so too.

I have Vaio music transfer and it is quick, but it seems to want to convert everything to Atrac3 - is this correct or can you change settings to drag n drop mp3s "as is" or with just the .omg wrapper applied ?

If you just download Vaio Music Transfer from the website
    Vaio Music Transfer

Will it work just fine with the HD5 w/o converting your tracks to Atrac3's and stuff.

Follow up - i already have ver 1.2 of Vaio Music Transfer and it does indeed transfer mp3's i have now discovered.

I had only used it briefly before posting and was confused by the misleading "preferences" screen which announces that "all tracks will be converted to AtRAC" - this is not the case
