Had my HD5 for 3 months and had to return it to Sony today because of a problem with the earphone socket (sound coming through 1 earplug only). Tried 4 different sets of earphones and all had the same problem; and all 4 sets of earphones worked well in other equipment.

One day it was working as it should, the next it wasn't.

Just thought I'd shre this in case there are other examples of faulty earphone units.

Did you get another HD5 brand new or have you just got a refund?

I've just sent it off today in the hope they can repair it. I'm hoping its pretty straightforward to replace an earphone socket.

I had this problem within a couple of days of getting an HD3 -- its replacement did not have the same problem. I suspect a dodgy connection.

This is the main reason that I use a remote with my new HD5H -- to prevent wear and tear on the units' socket. No sign of this on my HD5H yet.
