HD200x melted lens

Recently replaced the bulb in my HD200x (HD20 equivalent). Bought a bulb of Amazon. I'm thinking that was a mistake.

Shortly after installed I noticed the colors flickering. Opened the unit up and inspected the color wheel, looked OK. Resealed. Big black spot on the projected image. Started smelling a burning smell, and noticed some smoke coming from the lens assembly. Took apart the front of the lens assembly and this is what I find.

Why would they use a plastic lens? Do I bother replacing it or should I just look for a new projector?

According to Projector Centrel, was discontinued in 2011. Probably best to find another one. Glass lenses are usually used in the upper end of the market.
