I know Sky intend to braodcast the 2006/7 football season in HD. I was wondering is the world cup would be in HD, does anybody know the current status of HD broadcasting in Germany?

Just clutching at straws really

The 2006 WC will be filmed in HD but as to the actual broadcast of the event direct to the UK that is a totally different matter what with the BBC and ITV probably having all the rights going but who may not be in a position to offer the format.
It is suspected that SKY will have the hardware in place but do not own the rights and the BBC and ITV may not be interested in sharing even if a deal was offered but then again who knows:)

Another thread on the subject is here.

Yep, the above news makes it increasingly likely that the BBC will show World Cup games in HD. It seems almost inconceivable that the BBC would buy transponder space with a view to HD broadcasting and then ignore one of the biggest events in sport.

    As for ITV, forget it.;)

I remember reading that Sky are actually going to carry THIS season's Premiership coverage using HDTV cameras, just to (Id guess) get used to the equipment for the season after.
