The following is a list of Televisions that are compatible with the HD Ready spec. In many cases this is based on the contributions from our trusted forum members - in almost all cases they'll be right, but always double check before deciding to buy.

The Shop links are a new feature, inspired by a post by nburcombe. They go to Froogle - if you do not get any results for a link, post here and let me know. I will add links for many more TVs in the list over the next few days.

This list is to replace the one at the top this forum - I'm assuming Stuart will unpin the old one and pin this one shortly.

Thanks Ian - I've also taken that as a prompt to do a sweep on all other current Philips Plasma & LCD, using the UK Philips site as a reference.

Will you be moving all the posts from that thread into this thread? Not sure why we need another thread though, what was wrong with the other thread?

I'm working under Stuart's guidance on this one - I'll find out if we can do some kind of thread merge so we can keep the previous posts but keep the 'new' reference list at the top.

As far as I know I wouldn't have been able to maintain the original thread, hence starting the new one (I'm making assumptions here about what the forum software will/won't allow)

Apologies for the temporary duplication - one way or another I expect it'll get cleaned up in the next few days so that we don't have the multiple threads.

Thomson 50DLY645 i think is a DLP, not LCD rearpro. (in germany we have model 644)
Samsung PS42S5SDX is HD compatible. The HD-ready model is S5H

    Snap - Thanks.

All Thomson now updated based on UK site.

Looking at the Samsung UK site, it appears that the PS42P4A plasma might be compliant with "HD Ready" but it's not completely clear, specifically on whether it will take 720/1180 at 50 & 60 on both DVI and component. Similar to the Hitachi 5200 / 5200H issue. That Samsung is the same ALiS panel, btw

The Samsung's HDTV broschure says that PS42P4A is HD-Ready (and it also says that it is interlaced - 1024x512x2 ;) )

Well spotted - I think this might have been inherited from the old list. I've deleted it - it is an SD panel.

Sony KDE-P42XS1 has been marked as "Unconfirmed".

The panel is an ALiS, so has the necessary resolution, but digital input and format support is stated in the specs, hence now being treated as "unconfirmed".

If anyone has any more definite information on this, please post.

Hi i know this question has probably been asked a dozen times but could someone please tell me if my Hitachi 5200 is HI-DEF ready. It states at the top of this list that the 5200H is ready but what is the H? is this a different model or is it the same as mine.
The reason I ask is because sky have stated on their website that your telly must be able to display 1080i/25 and 720p/50.
I dont believe that the hitachi can display these. Thankyou

It needs to be an H to comply. From what I've found out, I'm surmising this was a firmware modification to the 5200. They stickered the H on the back when they did the mod - so you'll see 5200 and then the H seperately.

If you have a 5200 you may still be fine, depending on your source. I'll dig out the relevant thread later - basically 720p/50 isn't supported on one of the inputs but I can't remember offhand whether it was component or the DVI that lacked this.

When HD dvds finally arrive you'll be safe because you'll be able to pick a player which does what you need. The bigger question is Sky - there's just the one box for roll out, so you'll need the box to either be switchable (i.e. force it into 1080i), or support the relevant output for the 5200 in order to view 720 programmes. One of the recent mags implies it won't be switchable.

If anyone is curious - the above is very likely to apply to the Sky badged 5200s that Sky rather pointedly dumped a few months back. They got off loaded and reappeared on ebay selling for around £1200. In some ways a bargain for 42" ALiS panel, but a bit worrying that they were dumped like that. This was about the same time that the 5200 720/50 issue came to light.

Right I think I understand what your saying but at the moment it doesn't sound good for my screen. If its a firmware upgrade does this mean i will be able to get the upgrade myself?
Also I now believe i have been missold a screen as when i was looking for my screen at christmas I definatly remember reading tha tthe 5200 was supposed to be HI-DEF ready.

    Thanks for your help Paolo

the 5200H is a chipped version of 5200. I am not sure you can do it at home or need to send back to Hitachi.
The HD Ready spec say: 1080/25, 1080/30, 720/50 and 720/60 should be accepted on BOTH inputs (component and HDMI or DVI). The 5200H accepts now all of them on DVI but only 1080/30 and 720/60 on component. It can't be called HD ready but it should be OK with SKY Box HD as it will most probably pretect it's material and send HD only via DVI-D with HDCP.

Wow talk about confusing. Thanks very much for all the information. I suppose I will just have to sit and wait until its rolled out next year. I just feel prety annoyed that i have spent a lot of money on a tv that i was told was HiDef ready when i bought it only 6 months ago may now not be.
It would also be intresting to know if anyone can convert the 5200E into a 5200H.
Onced again thx for all you help.

Sorry, forgot the Philips 50PF7320 50" plasma (which seems a bit of a bargain at £2820!).
It should have been Samsung LE32R51B.
