HD ready displays

Following on from the earlier thread by AML, I found this article on the new scientist website:

Nothing that new, it just seems a pity people are buying 'bargin' plasmas for £1200 and they will be effectively old hat as soon as they get them home.

Shocking how shops are trying to punt older displays that they know arent HDTV ready to unsuspecting customers,
by simply lowering the price.

Knowledge is power! The power not to make mistakes and spend a fortune on stuff that you wont be able to use in a couple of years!

Yep - kind of the opposite situation to the US really.

Over there many people are buying HD-capable HDTV sets, but with NTSC only tuners, and they aren't feeding them HD from an external set top box.

In this case though they have an HD set, they are only watching SD analogue material on it, but many "think" they are watching "in HD"...

Still early days I think.
Most broadcasts are still fed through analogue cables. Even here in japan the HD broadcasts they have are fed through an analogue cable into HDTVs (component).
But it is Hi def material. Just not through HDMI or DVI-D.

Im sure given time more and more people will own HDTVs and then Broadcasts will probably change to accomodate these sets.
