    Hi all,

I have just ordered a Panasonic 42PV500 (delivered Wednesday :D ) and I would like to know what the options are, today, to feed HD material to the plasma.

What equipment is needed and where can I get it from, what are the costs, and finally where can one get HD material from.

I appreciate and look forward to your comments. I have searched the forum and looked for a sticky answering these questions unsuccessfully.

    TIA

    HCman

A PC and some US HD programmes that you can, err, cough, download and play back in 1024x768

    Euro1080 if you're very desperate?

I use a buffalo linktheater connected via component inputs for my hi def stuff on my pv500. Ive got movies in .ts format and lots of wmv hd stuff and most of it looks stunning. I can even stream the stuff via wifi.

Many thanks emporer, I am now the proud owner of a 'Buffalo LinkTheater'. :smashin:

I use an 80g external HD with it and must agree that HD stuff looks stunning on my PV500. I have a couple of .ts files but the 'Bufalo' refuses to play them, could you advise on how to play .ts?

Also do you get sound when playing WMV HD files?

    Thanks again. :)

Use a prog called hdtv2mpeg to turn them into mpg files, all it does is rename them to some extent so that they can be read in certain environments, i do believe that it doesn't encode them or mess with the actual file so quality shouldn't be affected. I can get alot of .ts movies to play in the original format but some just won't have any of it.

As for wmv hd, I presume you're using the optical out for sound on the linktheater? wmvhd cannot play via the optical just yet on it ( should be in the next FW ), I have a set of analogue phono's going to the amp aswell as the optical and that is the only way to get sound from wmv at this time, via analogue outs.

BTW, fancy trading any hd stuff?

    Hi emporer,

Many thanks for the advice on playing .ts files. For some reason I cannot get any audio from WMV HD (analogue or digital). I look forward to the new firmware.

    Please check your PM. ;)
