Here's my concern. I don't want to buy any more DVDs, since HD movies are coming out in less than a year. Anybody know how much HD DVDs or Blu-Rays are going to run? I'm not going to pay 50 Euros for a movie. I guess HD DVDs will be cheaper. Any news on the price?
    Indy :)

How much was DVD when it first came out? About £20?

You wouldn't pay £20 for any DVD these days (save for box sets etc etc).

Obviously be some premium to current DVD's so I'd guess at £25 RRP so say low £20's in the real world???

In order for HD to compete with DVD it does need to be cheap.
Not cheaper than DVD, but at least the same prices.

It is still unclear as to what the new HD format will be. It seems that both HD DVD and Blu Ray have been scrapped in order for the 2 camps to colaborate in making a single format.

Once the new formats costs are revealed we will have an idea of how much they will sell for.

(ie. Blu Ray's production would have cost more than HD DVD thus Blu Ray disks would have cost more to buy)

The studios backing HD-DVD have publically stated the discs will have about a $5 premium over DVD's.

I'd imagine Blu-Ray and/or any unified format to be about the same.

"Thomas Lesinski, president of Paramount Pictures Worldwide Home Entertainment, said the differential between his company's HD DVD and conventional DVD movie titles would likely be around US$5-10. Since the firm's DVD movie software sells between US$15 and US$20, HD DVD titles will likely retail for 20-US$30"
