Hi, thinking about getting the HD Hero2, which comes in about £300 with the outdoor pack.

I'll be shooting (or trying) outdoors mostly. Whilst I'm out mountainbiking, rock climbing etc, and hopefully to do something similar (though I appreciate these were made on more expensive equipment) to the vids below as well.

Is the Hero2 a good option, or is there something better out there for a max of £300?

Cheers

I thought the helmet cams were the only option, unless you fake-it using pro-gear.

That being the case you have only one choice . . . . but maybe check with other "Climbing Websites" to see what their views are . . . . it is likely to be a very harsh environment.

From what I've seen (yr links), I'd be very much surprised a £300 cam will do the same.

Some of these helmet=cams don't have an internal viewfinder/LCD - so that may become a problem...

These Helmet-Cams are fun items that should get you footage you'd not get any other way. Forget what pros get and enjoy yr sport.
- People talking after the event, recalling difficult bits are good for memories+ interest, esp if you can re-enact the sections to demo the dialogue - but then you are starting to fake-it.

But . . . that's how good vids are made... er, IMHO.

I don't know of any better cameras for that job. I know some cheaper ones.

I use GoPros regularly and I'm afraid that they don't produce videos like the ones you have linked.

They are brilliant cameras which, when used for what they are designed, are great. Don't expect DSLR quality footage, but do expect high-quality shots from otherwise un-achievable angles.

RE Viewfinder, the LCD Backpack for the GoPros provides this functionality should you want it. It is an extra expense though, and tends to eat battery pretty badly.

In any way though, if you mountain bike and rock climb etc then I'm sure you'll love these little fellas!

Ive still got my heart set on one but I have to admit the £250ish cost for the outdoor model, plus another £75 for the LCD back is putting me off slightly.

Decisions decisions...

Could always get one without the LCD and see how you get on? I only really use it for framing the shot as you clamp it onto whatever - after that I take it off and let the little fella run.

They are so much fun though, if you know you're going to use it a lot then you'll love it. What it does, it does really well.

Yeah think I'll pull the trigger on one, now to find a decent price one, had my eye on the outdoor pack at 235 on ebay but the price has changed :(

I wonder if a new-one wouldn't be better value?

S/h may be attractive pricewise, but these are likley to have been used harshly, also a new model should incorporate latest design improvements...etc.

-just a thought.

As long as its the hd2 you'll have all the latest stuff. Its a good improvement over the original hero, the old menu was awful!

2nd hand may be OK, they are pretty tough little fellas. Mind you, have killed a couple of them... Turns out they don't float!

Yes it was new at that price, obviously grey import but with Digigood and covered by their own warranty. They have put the price up at the moment but checking for it to drop again sometime this week.

Cheers
