    Hi all
Have just recieved my EP30 but having to send It back as It is faulty, grrruu.
Anyway,I had an E1 before and It was a great player.
I dont no If I should try another EP30 or go back to having an E1!
Is the EP30 much better than the E1....the only difference I see is that the EP30 is 1080p....I only have a 32inch lcd so dont need the 1080p
does the EP30 upscale sd dvd's better than the E1?

    Hi mate :)
The only difference is like you said, the 1080p................otherwise the same. :smashin:
From what i've read, the upscaling is on par with each other.

    Hiya m8
I might go back to the E1 I think.
from what I have read the E1 seems to be more realiable.
I like the look of the E1 better to,and It seemed to be better built to me.

    As title really.

Had HD-A1 and was too noisey.

Wondering if any difference in fan noise between E1 and EP30 i.e. can you here it clearly during qyuiter scences?

    Cheers
    Roman

    Hi Roman

I have the E-1 on an open shelf, while you can hear the fan it is never obtrusive - and the player is much slimmer than the A1. I would advise to go for the EP-30 from Play.com at the moment though - its the updated version with 24fps, but has the same audio out options (high bitrate DD/DTS through optical or LPCM via HDMI). The E1 is limited to 1080i - its main limitation

1080i is all I can use.

Do you use Optical out into a older amp?

If so does to register as DTS or DD - A1 registered as DTS but EP30 as DD.

Hence my interest in E1 ;)

you are on this forum alot more than I am,what player would you recomend out of the 4 above?
I dont use surround and I dont really need 1080p although It would be good for future proof If I get a bigger T.V.
I just can't seem to be able to make up my mind lol lol

    Hi mate :)
It can do Deep colour but there is no discs with this or planned and also you will need a TV which can display Deep colour as well to boot. :)

    Hiya mate
when I heard about warner brothers going to blu ray I panicked and sold my HD E1 on E-bay for £130.
After reflection though I wish I had not sold It.
I then recieved my EP30 yesterday but It was faulty so am returning It.
Not sure which one to get now...
The E1 was fantastic, never had a problem with It.Also liked the look of the player to.
The only difference between the E1 and the EP30 as far as I can gather Is the 1080p.
Either way I think the E1 or the EP30 would be a good buy.
Think I was just unlucky with the EP30 that I got.
As far as the noise of the fans go....both players were very quiet.
Go to Cnet.co.uk for a great look at both players (compares them side by side with a video review)

As a previous owner of the hd-d1/a1 which i found a rather good machine and was rather quiet and now own a ep-30 which is just a awsome machine for its price and it quiet unless you put your ears on the thing its self.

I have not had an e1 but i would also assume this is also quiet.

deep colour can actually be bad for a film in my oppinion. I tend to my films look natural in colour not fake etc.

I think deepcolour wold be good in dull filmed films and maybe cartoons but in general movie production the colours you get now are good enough and most of your tvs now have processing which enhance certain spects.

I would stick with your ep30 get it replaced and see how it goes, remeber 1080i on a 1366x768 tv will not give you the extra resolution , if i remeber correctly on my hd-d1/a1 it was that model that would be crappy on 720p but good on 1080i but this was fixed in further firmwares.

For the price you cant grumble and if a better model appears in time 4th gen or 5th gen atleast you know you didnt spoend alot of money :)

    Hiya mate
    I see your point.
I might phone play.com back and ask them to send me another EP30 instead of a refund.
just hope that the EP30 isn't conflicting with my T.V (panasonic 32lxd60)
    just paranoid I guess!
It was ok on 720p but juddered like hell on 1080i.(E1 was fine on 1080i)

Yeap I've the EP30 and no issue from me with fan noise.

As discussed above E1 will produce better sound via optical using an older (non DD+) amp so considering changing to it.

Sold A1 due to fan noise but it was better sounding than my EP30 due to the DTS thing.

Also used coaxal out of A1 with very expensive cable so maybe that also helped.

Either way looks like I need to try E1 and decide for myself
