Tons of good releases there IMHO - as I mentioned on the blue thread I think the lineup is very strong for Q4

HD DVD titles on my shiopping list are:

Elizabeth - Hopefully already inbound
Alexander Revisited: The Final Cut
Gods and Generals
Next
Top Gun
Galapagos
Transformers
2001: A Space Odyssey
Inside Man
Eyes Wide Shut - subject to it being an uncensored version
The Jack Ryan Collection - really looking forward to this one!
Face/Off
Star Trek: The Original Series - Season One - might buy the UK version
Pride & Prejudice (2005) - BBC version was definitive IMHO but will give this a go
Ocean's Thirteen
Battlestar Galactica: Season One = One word - "YES!"
Blade Runner (Complete Collector's Edition) (Warner)

Hopefully the Bourne Ultimatium and The Golden Age will arrive before too long as well.

Well there's at least 5:rolleyes: on that list that are must buys for me:rolleyes::D

Given that there's supposed to be 125 movies released on HD DVD in the 4th qtr though, still another 50odd titles to add to that list.

US Releases Only

The Last Starfighter (Universal)
Top Gun (Paramount)
Transformers (Dreamworks)
2001: A Space Odyssey (Warner)
A Clockwork Orange (Warner)
Eyes Wide Shut (Warner)
Full Metal Jacket: Deluxe Edition (Warner)
The Shining (1980) (Warner)
Tremors (Universal)
Blade Runner (Ultimate Collector's Edition) (Warner)

That'll do for me. The thought of Tom Cruise in tight white pants in HD Top Gun was a bit disturbing though, so I've offset it by putting Eyes Wide Shut in for HD Nicole Kidman. Nice.

now in my humble opinion that is a terrible terrible line up of films! there are possiblely ten movies worth purchasing on that list and if you had most of them then on DVD i really couldnt see the reason or want to have them on HD-DVD.

They really do need to pull the finger out when it comes to putting good films out on High Def

Got to agree with you mostly on the releases that are coming out, apart from Bladerunner and 2001 (the former still topping my personal all time top 10 films).

My own opinion is that there doesn't seem to be any "killer app" for either of the HD disc formats currently, i.e. new films that really show off the format that haven't already been released on SD DVD in the same way that The Matrix really got the SD DVD market going when that was first released.

I'm not even sure what films are coming out or just been released to cinema that would fall into the "killer app" category in the same way.

LOTR would have been it if HD had been out 2 years or more ago and I will certainly get that trilogy on HD to replace my SD DVD versions, but there needs to be some ground breaking film that people haven't got on another format before the masses start to really take notice and the format becomes mainstream IMHO.

Now for me that's a good thing.

I tend to watch films in high def on my projector, so that's maybe one a week.

So, we have maybe 15 more weeks until the end of the year.

Add to these HD DVDs any BDs I might want, and that's just about right.

It's easy to look at a list and see it as poor based on the %age of films you'd buy.

But ten Hd DVDs between now and the year's end looks good to me.

How come you only watch one a week on your projector mate? I usually watch 1 or 2 a night on mine!

It's called not being single anymore. :(

Actually, I quite look forward to our Friday night steak/claret/film routine. :smashin:

Steve W

Fair enough then mate. I'm quite lucky in the respect that my girlfriend hates me banging on about getting stuff, but will quite happily use/watch/destroy it when I eventually do get it.
