    Yeah its for real mate. A family friend one just ordered one for £187 or there abouts, with shipping insaurce etc.

    Keep in mind, this isn't HD-DVD, the next generation video format. It's a player that takes existing DVDs and scales them up to HDTV resolutions to give a slightly smoother picture.

    Will it upscale a regular dvd to 1080p in philips 9986 via dvi (components)?

    It looks like it should do. It can output via HDMI and component. Does the 9986 support 1080p?

    Also noticed Samsung have an actual hd dvd player on the marker in the states for around $300. The one thing that worries me is that the specs on all these hd dvd players and blu ray players support up to 1080p, but all the hdtvs available in the uk for now and the near future will only support 1080i

    It only outputs 1080p through component.
