Are you playing the movie from the blueray/HD disc drive or from the hard disk?

Your onboard graphics isn't up to the job.

hi and thanks

if thats the case why do they play fine on 1/2 to 3/4 screen and then get a little stuttery on full screen , it is nothing major and is well watchable but obviously i want to get rid of the stutter.

if i need to get a seperate graphics card what would anyone suggest , i would still like to be able to run thru hdmi but will use dvi if i have to

Its definately the card as suggested. File based playback is handled by your CPU, and optical based (and possibly ISO based as well...) is handled by the GPU.

I use a passively cooled 3470, and even a 3450 (at around £25) will be enough. Not sure of the NVidia equivalent.

thanks for that m8 , any chance you could send me a link to those 2 (passively cooled 3470, and even a 3450) and are these suitable for my system , i have searched for both but seem to find different ones so not sure which they are

Pretty much any of the ATI HD series PCIe graphics cards would be OK - the 3450 is probably the one to go for at the moment based on price though, but 3650s can be had for just £10 or so more.
However, if you use audio over HDMI, be aware that most ATI cards do not have a HDMI socket - they use a DVI socket with a special ATI DVI-HDMI adapter. The kicker is that many cards do not come with the adapter, so you need to do your homework (which isn't easy, as many manufacturers fail to bother mentioning whether it's included or not).

This one

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(31428)Sapphire-ATi-Radeon-HD-3450-256MB-DDR2-PCIE.aspx

seems to indicate the the HDMI adapter is included (but double check if it's important for you)

What are the CPU usage levels at when you see the stutter?
Are these stutters in the same place every time?

It could just be that your CPU isn't quite powerful enough to cope with HDDVD/BD playback without any assitance from a graphics card.
Have you tried a mild overclock of your CPU?

This is the 3470 I have. Passively cooled, and comes with the DVI to HDMi adaptor.

And has droped £15 in price since I bought mine 6 months ago.:smashin:

No worries mate, glad to help. :smashin:
