According to Toms Hardware Guide you will not only need HDCP & HDMI to see a picture on a Toshiba Machine but this as well :

    "HD-DVD Vs Blu Ray

I wouldn't join the former because of the highly privacy-intrusive copy-protection scheme ... in short, you'll have to connect your player to the Internet all the time"

Are they having a laugh ! I'm not paying for a phone line to go in my Home Cinema Room (ex garage) to watch a film. They`ll be planning passport scans & X-Ray machines next !

I doubt they'd get too far with a crazy idea like that.

Both HD DVD and BluRay machines are going to have some sort of internet connectivity - that has already been mentioned/implied. We know Toshiba's HD-DVD players will ship with a USB port. And we know that Sony plans to put Ethernet connectivity onto the PS3 and BluRay machines. But we don't know for either format that such connectivity is going to be mandatory. Let's hope not as this could result in an unbreakable region protection scheme :(
