My mate's brother's wife's sister's friend's uncle works for Sky and he reckons the plastic feet on the bottom of the HD box will be composed of a rubbery material.

Will the rubbery feet fit up a small childs nose. If so I am cancelling my Sky HD order.

This is interesting. I am most interested in finding out how this will effect the rate at which the box will come to a standstill if thrown slightly. Will the box stop or do you think it will go into a spin?

Yes they will, but don't worry - the feet are designed to dissolve in snot in under a second so you will be OK. No need to cancel. :smashin:

is a good point! im impressed with the anti vibration charecteristics of the sky+ box so im hoping the hd box will offer the same or better

there be a rubber feet subscription of £10 thou! it will be waived if we take 2 premium channels and the hd sub. sky are good to us like that ;)

All depends on the floor surface.

And, wait for it, they are going to be either black or grey (depending on whether you pre-ordered or not!!!).

No problem then, the workaround is it will come to a stop at the floor/wall interface

But how many feet will there be? I'm not going to subscribe if there's only 4 I'll just wait until they bring 6 out...

Anyone had an email about it yet as I've heard nothing....

Thats a good point. Why pay for 4 rubber feet when you can get 6. I may just slip the sky man a few extra bob for some extra feet and glue.

I am going to wait for the version II box as I have heard it is wireless. :smashin: Due it being wireless there will be a software download sometime in early 2007, so that when the adverts come on you can press the blue button on the remote, the SkyHD box jumps up, runs to the fridge, gets you a can of lager, opens it for you and then gets back in the rack before the ads have finished. :D

Amazing what they can do with these new fangled gadgets these days. :rotfl:

My sister's hairdresser overheard someone in a queue at the bank that this was the most expensive component developed specifically for the Sky HD unit.

Apparently the two high speed interposing electromechanical jetted heat pumps (fans) generate significant vibration at a harmonic frequency that beats with the speed of the hard disk rotation. During testing Sky noticed several units jumped as much as 2.175M from the test surface. Obviously this only happens when the unit gets hot enough for both thermal pumps to be engaged at full speed 27000RPM. A situation that should not arise in every day use as you would need to record a program of over 21 minutes and be watching another channel at the same time!

The noise caused by this ‘bouncing’ of the unit was not seen as a problem for the viewer as the noise produced when ‘landing’ was inaudible compared to ambient noise levels (material soundtrack, household noises and two heat pumps at 27000RPM).

The only real problem was the observed failure rates. Mean time to failure (MTBF) was still good at 1.00000000134 years, but the development team thought they could do better! After scouring the World for a suitable material that could a) dampen the oscillations and b) was dirt cheap, they struck gold with a new polymorchic composite called rubber.

    The rest is history.

Of course I am it's part of sky's 2007 new interactive package, they have to come up with something after HD you know. :)

Apparently there will be a £15 per month subscription for this service.

For heaven's sake, the feet were announced at International Electronics Support Expo last year; I wish people would do a search before posting. :(

Can you specify which endangered animal you want. If so I would like Rhino feet. :)

Nope, its not just one but each foot is made up of a multitude of dead animal parts. I can happily report that the premium hd box, which is to come out later this year, will have 6 feet each having their own name, and every new owner will be given a decoder birth certficate. Mine has been preordered already and is called Doris.

By the way this premium version which nobody has seen. still wont stop me posting my opinions of how great this is going to be, what date I will guess its coming out, and me speculating what price its going to come out at. If I also refuse to use smileys people will take what I have written as gospel, and then receive hate mail when my proposed date elapses.

By the way, I heard the HDMI cable can be boiled down to make smack with a street value of £1000. I am therefore selling my cable on ebay and use the profit to pay for a red scented candle that I want.
