HD Audio to AV receiver via seperate hdmi

Hi all,

I've drove myself crazy this evening trying to set up my htpc with my Samsung hu7200.

I recently purchased a nvidia GTX 960 gpu for my htpc and set my refresh rate to 60p; the issue I have is that my AV receiver isn't hdmi 2.0 or HDCP 2.2 compatible so using pass through is only giving me 24p so I'm using a direct hdmi From the gpu to the tv. I have no issue using a seperate hdmi directly from my motherboard to send Audio but I cannot seem to do it. My understanding is that you cannot send just send audio via hdmi. I'm sure I cannot be the only person to come across this hurdle.

I really do not want to buy another AV receiver as I'm pretty happy with what I have; however I do not know what to do? I was going to use optical out but cannot send DTS HD.

Does anybody know how I can get around this?

TIA

Grant

You will require an HDMI Out with a Video signal the AVR can lock to - can be dummy 2D rather than a 'copy' of the video being output via the main HDMI Port.

Is there a second HDMI Out on your GPU?

If no second HDMI Out on the GPU (or the GPU won't allow you to configure one for 1080p60/HDCP 2.0 with HD Audio) you will require a device which can 'split' the 2160p60/HDCP2.2 signal and provide 1 x Passthru port + 1 x 1080p60/HDCP2.0 with HD Audio 'downrez' Output.

A suitable device is going to cost approx. £150 (though currently not an off the shelf product as far as I know - watch this space!).

Many thanks for confirming what I suspected.

No my card has 1 hdmi, 3 dp, and 2 dvi. ive heard that dvi carries audio but i doubt it would carry HD audio.

So i guess i will just have to wait for a suitable device or upgrade my receiver.

Can you use DP to take the 2160p60 video to HDMI on the Display and configure HDMI to take 1080p60 with HD Audio to the AVR?

This is a work around i was considering; however, I struggled to find a DP > HDMi adapter that was compliant. seems that there are work arounds but nothing 100% confirmed off the shelves (i believe)

I have found an adapter that will hopefully resolve my issue from club 3d; a DP to HDMI 2.0 adapter. fingers crossed
