It's also worth mentioning that SKY are offering this series in 4K.

I'm saving the episodes up so I can watch them in one go... watching weekly instalments seems so archaic nowadays :p

      Looking forward to watching!

The first episode also has Dolby Atmos soundtrack if you download from UHD on-demand section. Strange that episode 2 doesn't last time I checked.

Thanks Cas, yeah really compelling viewing so far, makes you realise how close we came to half of europe being wiped out.

Not sure I can agree on the acting though, has seemed second rate to me, but I think that it because of the accents they are using, then not, then are, then not again......repeat

You’ve got this one spot on Cas. It’s excellent TV and yours is an excellent review to go with it.
      Definitely unmissable imho.

Its not on any streaming service like Netflix or Amazon Prime if that is what you mean.

I have been completely pulled in by this series, couldn't stop thinking about it and have been doing my best to get those around me to watch it as it's some of the best TV I have seen in years.

I have watched both episodes in HD on Sky and I am really enjoying it. Completely agree with the review. I hate to say this but I am looking forward to the next episode more than some of the Game of Thrones episodes from S8.
I will watch them both again in UHD with Atmos :D

I have felt the same way since last week, it wasn't episode 5 of Game of Thrones I was eagerly anticipating it was episode 2 of Chernobyl.

Really enjoying this, seems well done and look okay on NowTV, the only thing that annoys me are the accents, seems very few are native but lots of British.

      Compelling review, Cas.
I keep circling waiting and doing a marathon...
I recall some reports at the time saying there were a good few unsung heroes who stayed far too long, to ensure as much of a shutdown as they could manage. That news has stayed with me and I can't imagine the events in this being anything pleasant but all the more necessary a watch for it.

At the start of the first episode I thought it was odd that they were just speaking with their normal accents but to be honest I would rather they cast good actors and allow them to speak with their native accents than have all of them trying to put on fake russian accents which could be far more jarring depending on the actors ability.

The story/atmosphere/performances has been so gripping the accent issue quickly got left behind for me and now I just sit there trying to take everything in as it unfolds.

I would make it best of both worlds. Watch the first two episodes now, and then you only have a couple of days to wait for 3. You want to experience the terror of the end of episode 2, at least for a couple of days, which may be diluted somewhat by a binge watch. It's utterly horrifying, one of the best (worst) endings to any episode of TV I've ever watched.

      Hey folks,

Seen the first two eps and it's compelling, I was at Moscow airport at the time waiting to catch a flight to New Delhi during the week this happened. (Aerofloat for you) There was no mention of it at the time. Zilch media coverage, it was all hush hush until foreign news agencies were told of the high radiation levels across the borders.

Viewing this and it clearly highlights they were not prepared for it clearly, no back up plan (of course, like they say *You're dealing with something that's never happened on the planet before*) the lives lost, the impact on the environment and those that knew what they were dealing with were looked down upon by those high up in office.

Anyway, it's a superb cast assembled from Emma Watson, Jared Harris (This guy is amazing) wish he starred in more stuff and from his recent Endgame success (Stellan Skarsgard)
      Top acting
      Top script
      Top production...

Wish they made more of this stuff... Fact is weirder than fiction.

9.5/10 for me at the moment.

      Peace!

Yeah, son of Richard Harris (people of a certain age will know him )
He was very good in “Mad Men” & “The Crown”.
Anybody else noticed he smokes in just about anything he appears in?

Looking forward to watching this, but I really wish HBO would find themselves a new home in the UK. Having to watch their high end content through the animated mosaic of compression artefacts and early 1980s audio cassette audio quality that is Now TV is a joke.

If the day ever comes when Sky cease to exist, that will be a great day indeed.

Absolutely love this , the accents dont put me off as much as I taught, Gorbachev should have got more recognition for his part in history.
      Brilliant.

I love the accents that they are using. Been a huge fan of the natural accents since death of Stalin.

Worth also recommending the accompanying podcast to podcast fans.

He was a great surprise in Mad Men to me - I knew little of him before then, and the character was well drawn like all in MM, but Harris was a real joy.

Got Chernobyl on series link, looking forward, and glad its been well received thus far.

      Great review Cas.
This is the best tv I’ve seen this year.
Quality production, fantastic fx, haunting sound design (end of ep 2...), we know many of the cast and they are superb.
I knew a very limited version of the story as it happened when I was 11, the human tragedy/sacrifice/secrecy, I was not aware of. Since airing I’ve been going YouTube crazy for background info never mind fission and how it works.
I have found this truly fascinating and so far the production hasn’t let up.
Btw, each ep has a podcast to go with it, just search your pods for Chernobyl, if iPhone here you go..

Thanks for review Cas. This is fantastic and I echo the comments on here saying it's the best TV this year. I'd go one further and say it's the best TV for several years. Those that wet their pants over The Bodyguard must be filling nappies after this!

That same press gushed over Killing Eve, which was not much better.
Camp silliness is still what it is, however well executed.

I thought Killing Eve was excellent, Bodyguard however..just couldn’t get over how poor the lead was, Vince Vaughan True Detective 2 springs to mind.

Was watching the second episode the other night, and during a scene with Jared Harris the wife says, "His voice reminds me of somebody. Another actor. An older actor ..."

      I say "Richard Harris?"
She replies "Oh yes, that's him. It's uncanny. I wonder why that is"

Just to echo the comments, this is a very well put together, powerful piece of TV.

I'd go as far as saying its the best series since band of brothers.

Any script writers, producers, directors need to watch this and say to themselves "what can I do to get this this level".

I also agree about the bodyguard, cliched dross.
