I’ve found an old camcorder with footage of family that have now passed on. I’d love to watch these again so I’ve been trying to connect the camcorder to my TV and I’m having problems.

So far I’ve bought a red/yellow/ red lead with the other end being a HDMI- from Amazon and it didn’t work. The camcorder is very old- it’s a handycam video hi8- CCD TR680e. It powers up and I can see the video playing on the camcorder.

The model of my tv is a Panasonic TX 58ex700b. I have some pin head connectors on the back of the tv, do I need an red/yellow and white lead with the same connectors on both sides? I can’t see a yellow pin end on the back of the TV.

I’ve tried YouTube, the videos there either use the double ended r/y/w leads or the camcorders shown are much newer.

Coming to you all in the hope that any of this makes sense and you can advise!

The PDF of connections for your TV suggests the analogue RCA inputs are dual purpose with 3 RCA for component video and the top RCA also bring the video input for a composite signal. Based on that I'd suggest yes a 3 RCA cable is what you need.

I'm not sure if the composite video input shows as a separate input to component or if you need to alter a setting in the menu but it definitely looks possible to me

If the Input is set to Component (YPbPr) you will see a Black & White image when you connect the Yellow (Composite) video signal to the Green (Y) Input on the TV - as Jamie suggests there will be a menu toggle somewhere on the TV to charge the 'AV' Input from Component <> Composite.

Thanks so much both. I’ll order the cable then- fingers crossed! I’ll let you know 😊

Any RCA to RCA cable will get you going to allow you to test the signal/configure the TV settings - no matter if the ends are Red, White or Yellow.

Thanks for that. I bought one from Amazon, coloured ends one side and the other side was HDMI, that didn’t work at all. Hoping for more luck with RCA thingy on both sides 😭😩😭😩😭🤔😭😭
