Having a wobble about choice

Hello. New here and to LCD, our extremely good progressive scan CRT died a few weeks ago so have really needed a new TV. The pre-requisite was a 5 year guarantee and I went and bought the Panasonic TX-32LMD70 at Sound and Vision as they're doing instore 5 year guarantees and the price was good. Primarily went for it because of the reviews and it's good points for showing SD channels.

I'm having a wobble now because the Sony KDL-32S3000 is the same price and I'm wondering if I should have gone for it? It was sat next to the Panasonic but looked less impressive picture wise and the shop agreed that the Panasonic was the better all-rounder. Opinion here seems to go for the Sony. Eek?

If you're happy with it, stick with the Panasonic - they make good TVs and if the shop agreed, I'd be inclined to trust them

Interesting to read your comments, I'm also making the same comparison, was after a Sony S3020 (the S3000 in silver), was the 5yr warranty offered on Sony as well as Panasonic? Prefer the look of the Sony, but if the Panasonic image was better I may well go for that.

Thanks.

Deciding which to buy between the sony and panasonic is my problem too. My needs is mostly PS3 gaming but I'll also be watching alot of Freeview too, especially with the Euro2008, wimbledon and Olympics coming up. So with that in mind would it be more reasonable to consider the panasonic over the sony? because I've heard that the Panasonic does better Freeview. what about fast motion with sport?

Thank you for your replies. I rang the shop today for an impartial chat as they already have my money and both cost the same. The staff at sound and vision are lovely. I explained about my wobble and the bloke said there was really very little in it but that the Panasonic had a better clarity on screen. I suspect the Sony may be better if you're PS3ing etc but for me and using it on freeview primarily and running our good progressive scan dvd player through it, the Panasonic was a better choice. It seems like people here are very pro the Sony. The panasonic got great reviews in the March What HiFi and Vision and in Which. I don't know. I think for me it was the right choice. I'll tell you when it arrives tomorrow and it tests Casino Royale.

Well, i nipped to Sound and Vision, i notice they are offering the free 5yr warranty on Sony and Panasonic (manufacturers promotion) on most models, was originally going to get a 32" but decided would be to big for the conservatory, so opted for a 26" Panasonic LXD70 with 5yr warranty after comparing with the Sony T series side by side, seemed much sharper and really happy with set - great picture!

I'm in West Sussex; and am having exactly the same thoughts. I was wondering; where is this wonderful "sound and vision" store that you are all raving about? Also, are they still offering the 5-yr warranty?

I think that the Panny is the one I'll go for; we can't get any freeview signal where we live; so Sky is really the only option; and the Panny is apparently slightly better with standard def signals (but I wonder if anyone could confirm this). Also, my brother, my Dad and my mate all have Panasonics of various sizes and I have been impressed with all of them.

Also, Richer Sounds have them @ £399; but they're sold out online; I'll have to check with my local store.....also no extended warranty......:(

Thanks to all of you as usual for your good and honest advice.

Nuck.
