Nearly passed out when this classic popped up-www.play247.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R1&title=95491

To be expected really, what with the new film and all. But........I remember it at the flicks. What a chill I had when they screamed for Gandalf at the end and he turns up to kick arse! <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Warners are releasing the animated version of The Hobbit aswell on R1, don't know about R2, but it's great to see these getting disc treatment at last. My lady would disagree, but I always thought LoTR was cruelly treated and would have loved for Ralph Bakshi to get a crack at the other 2 books in the series. I always rated his Fritz The Cat too.

I really love the Bakshi version of the film. What is The Hobbit like?<br />I'll always remember the dark riders. Really creepy. It's prob. the the only film to really stick in my mind from any age. A true classic for me. Can't wait for the release.<br />It'll take me back to being a little boy eating sweeties watching Big Adventure. <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

I saw this advert for LOTR (Bakshi version) at play 247, but unfortunately, there is very little detail available.

What label is distributing the movie? I asked a colleague of mine in the cinema store and he suggested anchor bay, but there is nothing on there website. Alledgedly, it's to be released in October to cash in on the new trilogy hype.

I liked this version for all it's flaws. It was a good stab at a difficult book to film. Lets hope that it get the treatment it deserves. All prints I've seen on TV have always been dark and poor and suffered greatly from cropping. This movie is 23 years old and could do with digital remastering. Lets hope it's a good anamorphic print in the correct 1:85:1 ratio.

Commentary and documentaries would be useful. May be they could get hold of some of the live action footage before it was rotoscoped.

If anyone gets further details, please post them.

It's Warners releasing it early next month. I'm not sure about who's doing the UK release (in November?) but I'm assuming it's the same distributor. It's definitely not Anchor Bay though, and I'm pretty sure it's just a movie-only disc
