I recently bought the Denon AVR-1804 but a few of my mates have been telling me I should have got the Marantz SR5400 instead.

Are my friends right or are they winding me up? Both seem almost the same...right, let me know which you would have chosen if you had to choose between them!

    Thanks

My A/V days maynot be so exciting now:(

Denon own Marantz, and in all these relationships, it appears that the Denon brand is the up market one and the Marantz brand is the lower one.

What that actually means is anyones guess.

If your happy with the build quality, sound and functions it provides then that's all that matters. There are other amps available around the price range of the denon but as to whether they're any better is dependant on personal preference anyhow. The only way to judge would be to listen to all makes available and make a decision based on comparitive performance.

As far as I know he is right. It was ages ago and is apparently the reason why we now have marantz being more av geared than hifi. I cant find anything conclusive but read this

Sorry, Denon do not own Marantz, Marantz and Denon got together a few years ago to help each other in developing technology, very similar to Toshiba and Panasonic did last year with the Plasma technology.

I was told about two years ago regarding this but it was in a confidential dealer letter, but it appears either the wrong info has been leaked out, but to set the record straight Deno do not own Marantz.

Also just read thet merger details you linked to and even there it doesn't state anywhere that Denon own Marantz

If you are happy with the performance of the kit, forget what anyone else says. At the end of the day you have to live with it not them.:D
