My daughter's Nexus Tablet stopped working about 5 weeks ago. Luckily I bought it from John Lewis and as such it came with a 2 year guarantee.

Took it in, no problem. It occurred to me at the weekend that it hasn't been returned yet so today I gave them a call.

Rang up JL, got straight through and was told with apology that it was still with ASUS for repair. Without being asked JL offered to call Asus then and there and got back to me very quickly.

Apparently, ASUS have been waiting for a part but it had arrived that very morning so they are going to complete the repair today.

It's really spooky the number of times I have called manufacturers in the past about an ongoing repair and the part they have been waiting for has just arrived that instant. So spooky, it's quite scary.

Okay, you cynics reading this are saying that they have just been sat on their backsides and being chased up has pressed them into action and that the "waiting for a part" is just an excuse.

But I like to think the best of people, which can only mean that I have some sort of scary sixth sense which subconciously alerts me as to when that long awaited part has arrived.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

My supernatural powers don't stop there.

I can detect illness from afar

"I'm sorry the person who deals with that is off sick today"

And I can remotely detect IT problems

"Our system has just crashed, could you ring back tomorrow"

    Cheers,

    Nigel

    What me? ...... Never!

Can't fault JL though - their CS rep even had a little chuckle when I said "wow what a coincidence".

Okay, need some advice for tomorrow.

Seems that when I spoke to John Lewis over a week ago I was fobbed off - probably more by Asus than by John Lewis.

However, my contract and only point of contact is John Lewis and I need to call them tomorrow to find out what is happening.

The Nexus Tablet has now been with them for 5 weeks - what do you think I should be asking for. My feeling is that over 4 weeks is too much and it is verging on 'replace it with a new one because you obviously can't fix it in a reasonable time'.

    What do you think?

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Rang John Lewis this morning. They told me that it is still with the repair agent who isn't Asus but Triage Services Limited. They contacted the repair agent and came back with "we are still awaiting a part, we are expecting it in today and it will be fixed by the end of the week" - so essentially the same story I was told 9 days ago.

John Lewis also revealed that they had agreed to a repair cost of £189.97 ----- for a tablet that retails at £199.95 .

AT this point I expressed my extreme disappointment, that I had no faith in what the repair agent had said (because it was a duplicate of what they said 9 days ago) and asked what John Lewis intended to do about it. JL replied saying that they expect repairs to completed within 28 days - I pointed out that this had already passed. They quickly changed it to 28 working days. I pointed out that this would expire next Tuesday at which they changed it to 'about 28 working days'.

I then had to be passed to a manager to find out how long 'about 28 working days' could extend and they have agreed 6 weeks (next Friday) and if it isn't back with me by then they will send me a new replacement.

I'll beleive it when it happens.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

I know about this issue too. When I see those envelopes on the doormat, I can almost sense there will be a bill. And a pizza delivery leaflet and small card advertising taxis to airports. Uncanny.

Ah that's where my mail has gone - didn't get anything today and was getting a bit puzzled where it had gone.

Okay, serious update to the Nexus 7, John Lewis problem.

John Lewis contacted the repairer today and received the exact same story. When pushed the repairer admitted that they had absolutely no idea when they would get the part and therefore, when it could be repaired.

So this evening a John Lewis manager telephoned me apologising. They stated that unfortunately, in light of a large number of problems with the Nexus 7 they have decided to delete it from their range and were therefore, going to refund my money so I could take my time to research and buy an alternative.

    Cheers,

    Nigel
