After my 5 month old crt tv came back from the repair shop for the 5th time in 5 months John Lewis have decided to do the decent thing and exchange it:clap:

Alas it was a Sony kv32fx66 no longer available from JL:(

But after much consideration (i.e wife convincing) i have finally taken the plunge and ordered up a Hitachi 32pd3000.

Now i have been known to be a bit of a fussy git when it comes to pq (watch mostly Sky). Have i made a good choice ?

I would be interested to hear other owners of this models views and tweaks they have found to help pq along the way.

I can only sit 10 feet from the screen and thought that the 42" would be too big:(

Sitting 10 feet away from a 32" is too far IMO.
But if you're happy... that's all matters !!!

    adrenochrome,

I sit 10 feet away

Don't take my word for it but i read somewhere that 10 feet is the min for a 42.

If you can change your order go for the 42 :smashin:

    dvd ;)

I'm gonna get a 42" Panny and I'll be sitting 9 feet away.

    Hi GAmbrose,

Do you also agree adrenochrome should go for the 42 if he has the space?

Just back from Currys in Glasgow where they had the 42" directly below the 32" model.

Plonked my cheeks down 10 feet away from the screens and got them to show the football on sky.

Set both screens identically and have to be honest the 42" showed signs of artefacts that i wouldn't be able to accept :(
but the 32" one made me feel like i was 17 and in love again:clap:

Knowing Currys they had it connected via a 25 metre daisy-chained composite lead.

Even if it was connected that way the point is that they were both connected the same way and i felt that i'd be sitting to close for the 42":(

I've had my Hitachi for a few weeks now & I think it's fab. Looks good with Sky & better with DVD. There is a faint buzz but you have to have everything muted to notice

Do you have it wall mounted or did you leave it on the desktop stand?

I am itching for mine to arrive

Try this link for some advice on ideal viewing distances.

I saw the 42 and the 32 together and I have to agree the 32 looked fantastic, the picture was faultless. The 42 had a poor picture in comparison.

fatbob, I presume that link measures in feet and inches?

So a 42" screens ideal viewing distance according to them is about 8' 7"?

The website that these measurements come from is American, so I would take it that they are in feet and inches.

There are several of these formulas that calculate ideal viewing distance, and they use different ways to arrive at their results, although the conclusions are usually quite similar.

They're only intended to give you an idea of seating distance, as most people have there own "sweet spot" when it comes to placing a display from there viewing position, though I usually find that it doesn't differ too much from the guidelines.

I was just putting my mind at ease.

I'm probably going down the 42" plasma route and will be approx 9 feet from the screen. People were saying it was too close but it seems that it's just about right.
