I recently purchased a panasonic plasma as it is regarded as having the best contrast ratio and black levels. i recently discoverd that the new pioneer has a measured contrast ratio of 880:1 compared to pannys 855:1 switched on.

Does this mean better blacks and a greater range of colours on the pioneer?
also which has better dark scene detailing. just curiosty.

Any views or reassurances from experienced members would be appreciated.

I doubt very much whether you'd be able to spot that claimed contrast difference. Stop worrying about specs, and enjoy your screen instead confident in the knowedge that you couldn't have bought better for the money.

Pioneers emit a lot more light than Panasonics. If your environment is very bright, the measured contrast of the Pioneer, being in a brighter range, might easily suit well. If you prefer a darker situation, then Panasonic's deeper blacks are likely to look better. Don't know where you got those numbers from, the ones I've seen are not even close. It depends on a lot of things, contrast. You'd have thought this was a scientific measurement, but sadly not. Still too many variables. Maybe it's impossible to compare contrast values, measured or claimed. Bottom line is do your homework, get a demo, then for God's sake stop worrying and enjoy your plasma!
