I bought Band of Brothers R1 DTS off fleabay, and having got my hands on it I'm not convinced it is a bonafide copy. It's packed in a carboard box with a suspicious DVD 9 holo' sticker on it. The case covers don't look like they're official. But, the thing that's really got me thinking it's a pirate copy is that the discs are packaged in those celephane envelopes, similar to the ones that pirated copies are sold in, on the streets. The pq is good but the sound hasn't got me going, "Wow!". Any help would be much appreciated.

99% certain you got a pirate copy there mate. Email the person you got it from and demand a refund or say you will report them if they dont. Usually they give you a refund, and if they dont, then hey, report them. Not much else you can do im afraid.

Thanks for that. There's another thread from Feb, covering pretty much the same thing; found it after I posted.

Whilst on the subject, any recommendations for the best place to get a proper BoB set?

Sorry you seem to have been shafted. I think with DVDs on eBay, you have to work on the premise that if it's looks too good to be true, it probably is. :(

Why oh why did I go to Ebay. No I'm better informed, I just had another look and most of the copies on there are fakes!

Some good news. The seller just contacted me after I threatened to notify ebay, paypal, FACT and the trading standards. He claims that he didn't know it was a fake, but, he refunding the full amount. So fingers crossed, but I'm not going to be smiling until the money's back in my account.

I've never got a fake off e-bay, you really have to know what you're looking for though, and make sure you read every bit of the information about the auction. Any references to the DVD coming without a box, or region R2 when you know region 2 isnt out, sellers with a 0 number next to their name, sellers from places like malaysia, many things like that. Maybe there should be a sticky in here about what to look out for on e-bay auctions to make sure you get what you were after? I'll be glad to do an e-bay hunt to get more things to put in it.

In this instance though, it looks like you might have been legitimately screwed over, so i'm glad you got your money back :)

What's annoying is that it makes it more difficult for genuine people to sell DVDs on Ebay. I have had to relist some of mine several times, before they have eventually shifted.

The Region 4's are about to be released, and they are about £24, but then you have to consider customs. Still, even if customs was a tenner, it would still work out fairly cheap, and, of course, you could be lucky and slip the customs net.

It looked like the real thing and the price was what I thought I'd be paying for it on ebay, £33.99. It's just one of those things.

No doubt there are people who have had nothing but positive dealings, but there is an increasing number of counterfeit(sp?), pirated, etc goods being listed. I can fully underestand how it is becoming increasingly difficult for honest traders to sell.

Surely it is Ebay's responsibility to ensure the protection of both buyers and sellers? Does anyone know what they actually do to defaulters?
