I have just been reading the 24 thread about the cuts

what prats FOX are

Anyway i have noticed that in the DVD of the Sopranos Season 3 some episodes are almost 1 hour in length yet others barely scrape past the 45min mark

Anyone know why?

Bobbles,

Don't worry, this is perfectly as it should be. Nothing's been cut, or censored.

When HBO commission a series, they give free-reign to the directors and creators of the show, so they can make the episodes as long or as short as they wish.

Hence, some episodes last 45 minutes, whilst others last close to an hour. This also applies to "OZ", and "Six Feet Under" as well.

Bobbles,

It's not "weird" at all, really. What it means is that HBO care about their shows, and rather than impost a strict 45 minute time-limit on every episode, they allow the creators of the show more freedom, so that the episodes aren't forced to have good scenes cut or shortened, just to fit into a 45-minute running time.

good point!

however i maintain my wierd stance (so to speak)

It is extremely wierd for a TV company to think about something else other than money

well done HBO
