Not officially - but i have just gambled by paying my £30!
Hitachi said it would work via component, maybe by DVI - as long
as they are correct that the box can be set to display 1080 all the time

The x in the 5x00 is misleading - they are two completely different TV's. The 5200 will accept 1080i/50 and has an HDMI input. The 5300 doesn't accept either of the SkyHD formats via component (no HDMI).

My 5200 does not have HDMI, only DVI. The DVI will not take 720p and is unknown if it will take 1080i (stated by Hitachi 2 weeks ago).
As long as the sky HD box does allow a fixed output of 1080i, this will work via the component.

Sorry, I meant DVI (I always get muddled with those two). I have the 5300, and it will not accept either 720/50 or 1080/50. One thing's for sure - if I have to get a new TV to watch HDTV, it won't be a Hitachi. Good pictures - crap customer service.

Has anyone ever tried feeding component video into the VGA port on this TV ? It does seem quite amazing that it will quite happily display most PC video formats, but baulks at 720p/50 and 1080i/50

You can buy component to VGA converters which are not overly expensive.
