Has anyone used Arnold Clark before?

Found a car I am interested in earlier (Octavia VRS), and up until now I have only really been interested in ones from a Skoda dealer (for various reasons), but this one is being sold by Arnold Clark.

Has anyone had any dealings with them, good or bad?

The obvious downside is that I won't be able to take advantage of the 2 year service plan that Skoda are offering when you buy a car through them (so would save roughly £500 or so over 2 services).

The car will still have 18 months of manufacturers warranty, so that's fine.

Any other reasons to avoid/go with them?

Using the search here suggests several have and mostly wouldn’t again…..

I'd buy a new car from them as they can be cheap, but they'll rip you off if you're uninitiated.

They'd never see me again until it was time to change it, I wouldn't use them for servicing.

Used cars, not a chance. If there's anything wrong with it when you pick it up, regardless of having been promised they'll sort it for delivery date, it will never get done. They'll just give you the runaround.

I've bought a few cars from them over the years. There are always promises made and never quite delivered on. I always tell myself 'never again' each time, however where I live – west central Scotland – you don't really have much of an alternative they have that much of a monopoly.

A salesman at the East Kilbride branch once tried to get me to do the finance on the car before I'd even taken it for a test drive. I asked him why and was told it would help speed things up once I'd taken the test drive – he obviously assumed I would be buying the car. I walked out of the showroom instead.

Some branches are better than others and I've noticed the last couple of time I've been for a wander around there dealerships, the salespeople don't seem to be quite as in your face as they used to be.

Their prices tend to be amongst the lowest but their aftersales service is pretty poor, much like many big dealers.
There used to be a wonderful site called aroldsucks.com, No its not a porn site !!! People who had dealings with them would go on and advise of their experience with Arnold Clark. It made grim and at times hilarious reading.

Arnold Clarks lawyers finally managed to get it shut down
