If so what are the improvements and what was replaced and involved in the upgrade. Think we all know about the hdmi switcher but what about the sound and other features.

Where did £850 come from? I have been told by my dealer and Arcam customer services (and CrustyLoafer has stated previously) that the upgrade price will be £700 inclusive. Have Arcam revised the price? :thumbsdow

:suicide: :suicide: My mistake sorry....Hifi choice quote...."Arcam is instigating a return-to-site rebuild , including new front and back panels plus internal gubbins for the sum of £650". Looks like we both might have been wrong.

£700 is the price listed in the Arcam price list sent to me by Arcam. Hi-Fi Choice is also wrong. Greggles is right on this one, as both his dealer, myself and even Arcam themselves have stated that the price will be £700. Who are you going to trust, a magazine written by a bunch of journalists with a vague interest in Hi-Fi who frequently get things wrong or people who actually make and sell the product?

Phew that’s a relief. Do we have a definite date yet? The last time I checked with Arcam, they were saying end of March/ beginning of April. Like a lot of people, I am chomping at the bit, both for the AV8/9 upgrade and the not unrelated launch of Sky HD - (but that’s another storey as they say?

i have just recived a letter today from arcam offering me the upgrade for £700.
so can someone answer me this question from experience.
Is there any difference to the sound quality going from av8 to av9.
will my new av9 be identical to a brand new av9.
would i be better spending my money on a video processor to do hdmi switching. or is the upgrade worth it for any sound improvment.
    thanx for any help.

When I spoke to Arcam recently they said that the upgraded AV8 would be "essentially" identical to the AV9 (new front/ back panels, power supplies etc). When pressed he pointed out the the AV8 had undergone minor revisions during it's lifetime and so just how identical it will be will depend largely on the its age.

PS Did the letter say the upgrade was available now?
