Has anyone tried new Runco Plasmas?
I saw new 50" model. Some experiences? Which scaler could be a good match?
    Thanks.

I thought Runco plasma's were bundled with their PFP controller and wouldn't operate without it?

    Sure Gordon,
but from what I was able to read in their manual (available online) - if you have DVD (or any other) external progressive signal, you have to scale it externaly first and then connect it thru funny PFP box.
    I might be wrong anyway . . .

The PFP controller is a scaler. It will do its magic on Standard def signals. It will only pass through HiDef or progressive sources I believe.

You can connect standard cable, sat ,vcr, dvd to the inputs on PFP controller for usualy de-interlacing and scaling. My experience with the PFP range is that it is very good with film source, NTSC material and rather poor with video based material and film source PAL material.

Thanks Gordon for the info. It might be interesting to test it. I'll do my best.

However one point is still open for me:
Is it rather going to scale those progressive signals to plasma's native resolution (processing is bypassed), or do we get some unexpected bars on the screen ?

    Thanks

    My guess is this:

The plasma is an OEM unit from another manufacturer. I'd guess that when using the pass through option the plasma displays own internal de-interlacing and scaling will fall in to place. If this is the case you should have no problem with geometry

It would be logical that way.
Thanks Gordon, if I get to try it I will post my findings here.
