I stumbled accross this gadget whilst trying to find hope in my PS3's media capbabilites (which right now are pretty limited)....

I have a heap of .ts files downloaded, all in perfect broadcast quality of course, and the MVIX MX-760HD seems the only way to play pure HD content fed directly to my HDTV from a PC/external hard disk or a network.

The only snag is of course it has not been officially released here in the UK (not available on Amazon.co.uk or dabs.com) only in the US.

I was wondering if anyone owned one because i am very interested in purchasing...the list of file formats its compatible with are quite endless...

    Here it is...

have you searched in the High Definition TV Hardware section?

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=104

there should be a few discussions in there regarding the different media players available such as

    pixel magics hd mediabox http://www.crtprojectors.co.uk/hd_mediabox.htm
    or
    Iamm NTD36HD http://www.kjglobal.co.uk/acatalog/IAMM_NTD36HD.html

both are available in this country and look like they do the same job as the mvix. these players let you slot in an IDE internal hard drive taken from your pc. should also connect to your network, but not wirelessly.

i have the Iamm NTD36HD (with hard drive) for playing .ts files - works a treat for me!

I'm looking around for info on this as well - after seeing Wil Wheaton's brief review of it on this months Indigital podcast - see here.... http://revision3.com/indigital/seventeen

It looks like it might replace my old Xbox XBMC setup - which is looking a bit out of date under the TV now.

Heres a couple of UK sellers

Santa gave me the MVIX MX-760HD HD Media Player and its brill, have it hooked up to a Panasonic Tx-32LXD60 via dvi to hdmi cable, audio run to line in on tv. I have 320gb hard disk internal in the Mvix and a 250gb on one of the usb ports and the other usb port I use for my mp3 players to stream music.
You transfer files via usb (unit not usable whilst doing this) but Mvix USA site http://www.mvixusa.com/support/ have regular updates and have just released NDAS software for this unit. Wireless streaming from my laptop can be hit or miss at times depending on file type and can freeze pic then speed up for 5sec. Prison Break in HD is a good sample to show how good this unit is, Brightness, Contrast and Volume can all be controlled from the remote but from over 200 films the volume is the only control I have had to use. I hope this helps to answer any questions and if you need more info on this feel free to ask me ( just dont get to technical ) and I will answer as soon as possible....Dave

Got one too, it's great and works well. Only thing that's annoying is that you can't transfer files via wifi, you always have to use the USB cable or a USB key.
It's a pain since the Mvix sees your PC via Wifi (streaming works well) but not the other way round...
I got it connected in component cables to my Yamaha RXN600 amp and the quality is great.... obviously providing the downloaded files are of good quality too...

    Hi
Just to let you know the Mvix 760HD has now the capability to receive files from the PC via your home network. So no need to have the PC next to it and connected by USB :D
So it can be used as I back up hard drive too and almost like a home server...
    great buy that for sure
    c ya

Once you have upgraded the firmware you have to pay extra for a NDAS key.

I have this hooked upto my Sony 40X2000 but via composite as I haven't tried the DVI to HDMI route. I have a 500GB hdd and it is pretty cool. Used to stream movies from my PC as well without any problems. Had a few issues with playback of certain wmv files but all in all, this is a good one.

Bought this from kjglobal and got the NDAS key from the usa website for no cost. But transferring files over the wireless network is very slow and hence i use the usb2.0 cable supplied with the unit.

I've just gotten one of these todaywith a 160gig hard drive and updated it to the latest 1.1.27 firmware but I have a problem.

Using a DVI to HDMI wire to connect it to my Sony 40W2000, at 720p output the image is off by about 2 inches to the right on the TV and at 1080p it's off by more and has graphical glitches.

I had the same problem (with 40X2000) but when I set the TV type to NTSC, it worked!! Also, 576p works for PAL.

Btw, I have noticed a slight sync error between the video and picture when using the DVI to HDMI for video and optical/RCA for the sound. I have played the WMV samples from the microsoft website and they look pretty stunning especially the coral reef one.
