I saw Richer advetising them at £299 and thought "what a bargain" - the original rrp was between £800 and £1000.

    From memory, it's a bl**dy good DD/DTS 5.1 amp/receiver - the only feature that's missing (I think) is 5.1 analogue inputs for DVD-A & SACD.

I seem to remember it being reviewed by both HiFi Choice and Home Entertainment mags (nothing on-line on their websites mind) and they both rated it quite highly. There's a Home Cinema Choice review on line.

If I was buying an amp and only had a £300 budget then I would be very tempted by the AV10.

The Nakamichi is a good all rounder, as oppose to outstanding in one area. Stereo is good for an AV amp too. However, the few that I've delt with have had a few reliability problems so keep your receipt...;) But they may just have been one off's

It's a very good question, but I suspect the answer is that Nakamichi just arn't fashionable at the moment unlike Denon for instance, and this site perpetuates the fashionable kit at the expense of the rest.

Bit sad really because it would be nice to hear about all sorts of kit here.

I assume the returns policy is if it doesn't work, they'll take it back. Don't be put off by my nay-saying, give it a whirl. It's got to be worth a chance.:D

IIRC, RS do a 14-day no quibble return.
