Has anybody used a Canopus ADVC-100 converter to view analogue video on a PC?

    Hi folks.

Sorry for a newbie posting. Please bear with me.

My aim is to watch Sky digital on my PC. I currently have a Packard Bell TV-100 (SAA-7130) capture card, but am unhappy with the display. So...

Would getting a (seemingly highly recommended) Canopus ADVC-100 converter box and converting to DV allow me to watch the converted s-video stream on the PC?

With dscaler? Or isn't that needed if video appears in DV format?

If so, would that be better quality than the TV-100?

I did do a search on this forum before asking... and I see folks trying to find the next best PCI capture card... I just feel I'm missing something as to why I've not seen this particular method mentioned.

    Thanks again!

    Hmmm. OK.

So has anybody tried using this Canopus thing to display something like Sky digital on their monitor or their TV display?

Did it work? Was it good?

    Sorry for pestering :)

I wouldn't expect the quality to be much better (if any) than the PB TV100, the main problem here is Sky Digital not the TV card, the other issue will be how do you deinterlace and display the the video once converted to DV? DScaler won't work.

Yup... I was wondering about that too.

I not sure about whether the Canopus converter does the de-interlacing before it sends the digital data down the firewire line or not.

At least I won't get liip sync problems :) :)

    Thanks
