I have a Harmon Kardon Amp powering 4 speakers at work in a fairly large hall, it is quite a big thing and a good few years old but has always worked well.

We had to use it for a certain event which required it being pretty much on full volume for approx 40 minutes.

During that time it got quite warm and the sound deteriorated. Now the sound is quite poor and seems to be mostly bass.

I have a few questions...

Would it be worth repairing (if it is even repairable)?
Why would it have failed?
If we get something new - what would be good to go for?

How old is the amp and what model? Like anything else manmade, it is prone to failure. Whether it is worth repairing depends on the cost. For work, a professional amp of power output comparable to what you are replacing would be reliable. Look into QSC, Crown or Peavey brands. Power Amps at zZounds
