Hi all. Think my dvd player is on the blink (see below) and looking at possible replacements. Do not want to spend a HUGE amount, and was attracted to the H/K dvd 22 as seen it for £129, which seems like a very good price.

I am after a player that will play CD's well, and has a good component picture, and sound.

Not so bothered about DVD audio or SACD, although yet to make up my mind about a HDMI capability. Currently of the view that until HD dvd comes out, probably won't notice huge difference with dvd player connected by component or HDMI.

Anway, the 22 seems to have divided opinion on these forums, but I would be interested to think what people think of it based on the above price.

thanks and look forward to hearing from you!

(PS don't really want to pay much more than this).

mm like the sound on sheet!
love the looks!
like the make!

but is it good??

im tempted by this too!
is it better than a denon 1720?

i have a dvd 22 and am very pleased

component for video and coax for audio

i turn off the progressive scan for SOME films as i find there are ocassions when the plasma handles the deinterlacing better

the price quoted is a hell of a lot less than i paid

in view of forthcoming changes eg blue ray i would not pay any more for a dvd player at this time - i even turned down an arcam fmj at a very reasonable price :D

any chance you can post pic of remote?
iv not been able to see any pics of it.
what is the enu system like? iv heard people complain about it what is it like?

sorry don't have facility to post photo's but if you have a look on the hk website they have instruction manual downloads which should show it all

sorry i don't know what 'enu' is

thank god for that :D thought i'd missed a function!!

in all honesty i'm no techy but find the menu so simple even i can use it - that says it all :D

but i just use said menu to to play movies and don't use a lot of the 'extra' functions ;)

when i was a bit flush (before baby came) i was gona get this dvd player (was about £300) and the av amp cant remember each one for bout £900 in total.
demod the amp with bose speakers sounded great and i love the look of hk
so as long as the performance is very good via component think i might get it.
cant view the pdf on hk site!

it says remote has backlit buttons?
what colour?
is it that weird shape one like on older hks?

remote is normal shape imo :D

backlight just turns the actual buttons a yellow/green colour but not the text

another thing i meant to add is that its made multi region via a dead simple handset hack of a few numbers

also it will play anything thrown at it

that was going to be my next question as the one I have seen is not multi region.

Do you know where i might find this code?

i've got in somewhere

but have a search on the dvd hacks forum - i've seen it there as well (and posted on the matter)

beware - SOME people will try and sell you i hack - NOT NEEDED

I recetly bought the DVD22 after 6 wonderful years with a Tosh SD-210.

I was a bit unsure as to how much improved the picture was goig to be as my Tosh had a great picture and would be hard to beat.

Well as soon as I hooked it up (I have a Philips 32inch LCD) and played my first disc I was convinced hat I'd made he right choice. As I said the Tosh had a great picture but there was always a slight shimmer around the edges of people if they were against a bright background like the sky. With the HK I don't notice any of that and the picture actually seems sharper.

Word of warning though. I'd stick with the interlaced pictiure as opposed to the prog scan as I think it's a much sharper image.

My advice is to buy it.

well im going to test the hk and denon 1720 at weekend.
looks wise the hk is awesome however the image it displays needs to be good lol.
the denon i think looks ugly but profesional/upermarket.

my heart wants hk but ill wait n see what my eyes want!

Can i ask where u found it for £129 as im just in process of buying one for alot more that that from sevenoaks?

Hi, I saw it at Pixmania, although on doing a bit more research it looks like that was a European/grey model (as all their products are), so not so sure now.

Anyone ordered from them?

There was a long thread on the LCD forum about a cheap Toshiba TV that was made for the French market but fine for the UK too. A concern was that the warranty stipulates that the buyer has to pay for the unit to be returned to France. And a couple of people had to return theirs. This put me off immediately though a DVD player is perhaps more reliable (and far easier and cheaper) to return.

yes pixmania.
now have stock iv placed an order. epecially after seeing it for £300 in my local specialists lol

Has anyone had any playback issues with the dvd22. I recently bought Little Britain season 1 and am unable to play the first disc. When I put it in I get teh BBC intro and when it should transition ot the main menu it stops playing and I get the HK screen displayed.

Has anyone struck the same issues on other discs?

I like the sound of the HK 22, does anyone know if it will play homemade DVD+Rs made on a Mac G5?

KrismC - Have you received it yet? Are you pleased with the purchase?

I didn't get it from Pixmania, chose the much more reliable option of getting an "as new" off Ebay. Great price and came in perfect boxed condition. Really really pleased with it. OK, so doesn't have HDMI, but the progressive picture through component is out of this world. Dead chuffed.

i brought one with the avr 230 off the forums instead lol.
no issues and really great pic quality via componant

umm, that is a bit out of my price range, i can't seem to find it for less than £200 on the net (apart from pixmania).

I am thinking about the denon 1720, i know you didn't opt for that one but how did you find it generally? I figure at £100 it will tide me over until blu-ray comes out etc. I am just a bit concerned about the problems people have with lipsync with the 1920.
