    The correct procedure is:

Connect to TV via composite cable.
From standby, press 'clear' on the remote for about 7 secs until the player powers up.
    Load update disc.
On screen display prompts you to press the 'up arrow' key. (Press it!)
Disc runs, green bar displayed shows progress, after about 2 mins, player goes into standby mode.
Press 'clear' for 7 secs or so until the player powers up.
    Remove disc.
Reset video menu to component, prog scan, 16:9 as appropriate.
    Enjoy.

Pressing 'clear' for 7 secs resets things.

    Good luck,

    Mr Ed.

    Hi Ian,

I guess it's talk to your dealer time. The disc I have states on the sleeve that Harman will not regard any failures while modding players as warranty jobs, so be careful what you say. If it's less than 3 months old, Harman operate a 'no quibble' replacement policy on failed units.

    Good luck,

    Mr Ed.

Looks like a DOA machine going back to the supplier today - thanks and all the best.
