I've been searching through old posts and am looking at getting a silver HK DVD player, I'm unsure which model to get as I can't make head nor tail of model numbers.
Firstly I take it the 506 is out as I've read a few negative reports on it.
This leaves a 25 and 2550, whats the difference between these is it colour or something?
Thers also the21 and 22 are these new models of the 25 and 2550?
I have checked the official HK website and this only mentions the 506, 30, 25 and 21.

Can someone please shed me some light as I think I am almost ready to order my full system.

As far as i am aware the only difference between the 25 and the 2550 is the colour with the 2550 having a silver bottom half to thr fascia. They have just been replaced by the newer models that you have seen on the HK website so there may be some bargains to be had.

BTW I have an 506 and have had no problems with it (so far) the Video and audio performance is excellent IMHO and easily beat the pioneer 565 that i demoed against.

I might get a 2550 if the 22 is its replacement.
The 2550 is 2kg's heavier and according to the website I looked at, the 22 only has pal progressive and not ntsc.
    my search continues.

2550 is a cracking machine, 506 is good but has disappointed a few people. NEW models i have not had a play with yet so cant comment but a good deal should be had on a 2550 if you can find one in stock.

Got a HK 506 hooked up to a Hitachi 42PD3000E plasma, and it's fantastic. Previously had a Yamaha S540 DVD player (absolute sh*t), and a Marantz 4300 (average). I cannot recommend the HK player highly enough.
PAL prog scan is crystal clear, good remote control, looks great.

DVD506 - an intermediate between the 25/2550 (silver 25), and the new 22.
DVD 22 - pal, ntsc prog, MR via remote, based on 25 and upgraded significantly.
DVD 506 - was apparently made cheaper because of it's limeted edition status,m so has less features than a 22.

I've been in touch with HK and they said the new 22 will be available mid to end march so I'm waiting out for that.

    Coaxial,

Interested to know what features have been left out of The HK506 to make it a cheaper player.

You can't use the test screen to adjust the players output (you can do brightness, contrast, tint etc on a 22, so set your screen to sky box, and dvd to match, so they both look good, not just the dvd), and apparently the output stage has cheaper caps in amongst other slight tweeks.
One word of advice - scrounge a dvd 25 remote, and the test card / adjustment is there, but the button wasn't on the 506 remote for some reason.. strange!

I have just bought a HK25. I am very pleased indeed with the quality.
But the biggest surprise is the quality of CD replay. I cant tell the difference between it and a Cyrus CD8 feed into a Cyrus 8 amp.

    Fabulous value

    Wow praise indeed.

I've got mine hooked up to my AV receiver and Kef Eggs. It does sound pretty good but I'm now going to try it on my HiFi kit, Arcam Alpha 7 biamped with Alpha 8 power amp into Kef Q35.2s, just to find out how good it is with CDs. My CD player is an Alpha 7SE which I'll use as comparison. I didn't bother before just because I assumed it wouldn't be quite as good. Now I'm not sure?
