does anyone know what this DVD player is like in stereo, do you have any comparisons to talk about?

Also does the progressive scan work with a CRT with the upgraded firmware.

Thinking of buying one, also what's the best price around?

Have just bought DVD25. Not really put it to the test yet, but there are a couple of things I've noticed:

    1. Was converted to MR by shop (I assumed it would also be PAL prog'd at the same time), but all disks (R1 & R2) seem to be output at NTSC prog (478p I think) according to the info screen on my Panny plasma. Even selecting PAL60 as output still gives the same value (when put into prog scan mode). Is there a MR upgrade that doesn't do the PAL prog? I didn't think there was...
    Apache to the rescue?

    2. Transport noise! I can accept some clicking from the drive, but it appears to be very rapid and quite intrusive. Anyone else with the same problem?

Not bad, but not as rich as Arcam Alpha 7 (but this is known to be laid back anyway). Certainly better than my Sony Discman...

I would assume only if the CRT can accept a progressive signal.

i know the Panasonic TX- 32PH40 can take PAL PS but i think its one of the very few that can. More are able to cope with NTSC.

    OK - here's the latest

Apparently there is an official HK firmware update that does the MR but not the PAL prog. Have now updated to Apache with PAL prog, and the picture is...stunning.

Went back to shop for lengthy back to back tests with other DVD25s. They all do it to some degree (esp. with R1 discs). Perhaps I'm just being oversensitive (see endless Panasonic plasma buzzing threads). Guess I'll learn to live with it.

Some online retailers are hitting the £300 mark, but you can pick them up from your local 'real' shop for £350 (they will MR it and keep the guarantee cover, and be there when things go wrong and give you free coffee...)

Thanks for that info, I just saw it in Sevenoaks - it does look stunning, but they suggested the Pioneer (forget the model no) for the same price is better in stereo (although HK gives better picture) just wondered what you thought.

I know it's not supposed to matter but I can't get excited about the look of the Pioneer compared to the HK.
