Anybody out there using one of these players.

I'm looking to pick one up, when i'm over in the UK at the end of March.

Just wondering if there are any known issues/problem i should know about before purchasing.

    Thanks

Some people seem to have a problem with this player and the Sanyo PLV-Z1 projector and I'm unfortunately one of them. With progressive PAL material there is sometimes a horizontal flickering artefact. Some people believe it has to do with the player having a too-high-voltage video output signal. Some have managed to get rid of the problem by routing the video signal through an AV receiver.

Another minor issue is the zoom function. If I'm correct, one should be able to pan the zoomed image. However, I haven't been able to do it either with the original or the hacked firmware. No big deal.

Oh yeah, there's just one SCART so you can't chain gear.

Got one last month from Germany - fantastic player. Wasnt willing to take the risk on the initial bugs with the 963sa, and the HK goest for around 399 euro in Germany if you shop around (plus 50 or so for shipping) - still quite cheap.
I'm using it with a Sanyo Z1, and the progressive output on both PAL and NTSC is excellent.

I'm on the brink of buying one of these myself. Only questions I have are:

Is there a noticeable lip sync problem when using Prog Scan?

Can it play, erm, not totally legit DVDs? The ones with the purple surface on the underside... I occasionally get films pre-release on this type of media and want to still be able to play them - my aging Sony DVP-S715 can...

Hello, I have bought also the player yesterday (with Z1...?...simply fantastic!!!!) :D :D :D
But with the Z1 it works alone in 480p (or 480i), is it normal?
With PHILIPS 963, the Z1, works to 575p.
Which of the two is better?
    It's the 480p inferior?

    Thanks

    Sorry, one other question:
can you select PAL in the menu of the DVD25 or, when you set progressive, it set NTSC without possibility to touch it.

    infinite thanks

That's what happens with an unmodified player, it is only able to output progressive video as NTSC/480p. However, with the hacked firmware from the link above you can in addition to having a region free player also output true progressive PAL/576p (= 575p).

I have not upgrade the firmware becose my S.N. is advanced to that one described on H/K site:

    http://international.harmankardon.c...=DVD&ser=DVD&prod=DVD 25/230&language=ENGLISH

    H/K say:

    >All DVD 25 players with a serial number bigger than
    >WA0001-12582 contain the latest firmware.
    >If the last part of the serialnumber of your DVD 25
    >is lower than these numbers

    :boring: :boring:

...I will proceed with the upgrade... :smoke:

    Thanks

    rox,

that fw you mentioned is the official one so it can't provide region free playback and probably still not progressive PAL. The fw from the apache site is a hacked one and provides both.

i wouldn't using the progressive scan as yet, and if i did, it would only be a stop gap, til i got a iscan, or something similair, and a CRT projector.
