Has anyone used the Harmon Kardon DVD 25 firmware upgrade available here? It claims to remove DVD region restrictions and also enable progressive scan for PAL systems. But it's the only place I found the firmware on the web. Is it safe to use???

Direct link to firmware is this.

Wasn't there a link from HK themselves somewhere? If not, that link looks fine to me. I'd phone the number at the top of the page to find out a bit more if you are uncertain.

Are these players any good? Have read and heard that they are pretty damn fine.

Where do I look to buy one for a good price in the UK?

Has anyone tried this hack on the DVD-25 to enable multi-region playback? It seems to work on all the other HK models and doesn't require any firmware update. You just have to remember Pi ;)

The DVD25's a decent entry-level DVD player with an OK interlaced video output but only so-so deinterlacing. Also mechanically it's nowhere near high end either. The firmware at Apache is a good one and brings you progressive PAL output AND region free capabilities. One day there may be an official H/K firmware with prog PAL but naturally NOT region-free.

I'm pretty happy with mine (had for a year) but if I was getting a new one today, I'd probably one with Sage/Faroudja deinterlacing and/or SACD/DVD-Audio properties.
