Making this topic as a semi rant - semi question.

What is the point of the Handguns in this game? They are truly useless.

They have no power to them, and you need to have pin point accuracy or all that happens is the person turns around and shoots you dead while you are relaoding.

And a 1v1. Try firing a USP vs someone coming at you with a FMG9 or PP90 or MP7. You are dead every single time.

Nobody would ever use a handgun unless it was for challenge hunting; am expecting the argumentative ones now coming along saying all I use is the Magnum/Deagle/USP etc.

Giving someone a choice of a rocket launcher, Machine Pistol, or a handgun. Nobody is going to chose a Handgun so why even keep them in the game?

I know you can say just don't use them, but IW being IW have set it so you get the fastest XP using them. So for me I am going to use them.

Fastest exp?

Wouldn't using a better machine pistol or even your main gun net you more exp than playing with an ineffective weapon? Assuming you are talking about what it takes to level them up. I may have missed something and I know I didn't bother to calculate benefit for or against them because I'm a primary gun user for the most part.

RPG is the only secondary I have maxed out.

~40 kills with one you get 10,000 XP. Check my tips thread to see why.

But those 40 kills are seriously annoying when you are up against everyone using MP7's / PP90s and Akimbo FMG9s.

The handguns aren't that bad, obviously they're not as good as a machine pistol etc but then they have other benefits, like the very fast swap speed.

You've just put someone into final stand, and have run out of ammo on your primary, if you have machine pistol the time it takes to swap would probably mean you'll be dead/close to dead, whereas the extremely fast swap of a handgun would probably keep you alive.

Akimbo handguns with steadyaim would probably be pretty awesome in close range situations and on small maps :D

And tbh, if I'm going for a challenge and getting killed all the time because of it then obviously it ain' working, and I'll go back to my normal playing style, MP7/M4/T95 etc.

Unlocking all the attachments for the handguns will be something I'll do on my last prestige, just like I did on MW2, had everything for every handgun on that.

I like the Cal up close. granted mahine pistols are easier to get kills but these are more satisfying.

I've been killed by akimbo pistols a few times.

Never used any of the pistols myself though.

Can only see people using them for the challenge or faster ranking myself. As against the other choices they're never going to get picked.

Today I will mostly be using a USP. I've maxed out all but one of the machine pistols, it doesn't unlock until rank 72 or something, so I will be on the prowl with the puny USP until it's maxed out too.

Any tips? Was thinking Stalker Pro might help as I can run around with the sights up.

Only 40 kills. Gonna use them then. Good thing I don't care about kdr. But going to use support so I'm not worthless lol.

To max it out you only need to hit level 10 with it - other handguns level 7.

So just using it with Stalker and Quickdraw till level 5. (Hip firing a hand gun is a waste of time).

Then switch to Steady Aim and akimbo till you reach level 10. (or 7 on the other handguns) And then 10k.

Overall its ~40 kills so just 2 games of FFA for 10k.

Its those first 25 kills that get you to level 5 that are the most annoying as you need to be dead on accurate. You get next to no ammo. And when you hit someone once, they have a tendency to move left and right to dodge and then spray you with their PP90 etc so it means you are screwed as aiming handguns is hard. The USP is probably one of the better handguns though. Better than the P99.

The best maps to get it done on I would say are Arkaden - by far. Mission, Villiage and Hardhat.

All I do is on Arkeden just patrol betweek the back room near C and the main section towards A.

Will definitely be using the Support class myself. I'd be surprised if I manage to get anything above a 3 killstreak with a pistol but you never know. At least using Support I'll still make myself useful to the rest of the team.

UAV, Vests, SAM I think.

Might try SOH, Assasin Pro and Stalker Pro and see how I get on. Couldn't care less about my KDR until I hit rank 80.

I don't think I'd have a hope of getting 40 kills just with a handgun in two games of ffa in a lobby of 8 average players all using SMGs/rifles etc. I'd say it would take me a good 4/5 games at least.

Ive only used one that i picked up when out of ammo. I think they are a waste of time.

The only reason to use them is for XP - Id rather just play a couple of extra games to get it than get killed loads because im using a rubbish gun. The only chance you have of killing with one is shooting someone in the back when they not got a clue your behind them.

Machine pistols rule.

If anyone has any tips on using the Deagle I am all ears.

That gun is so useless its not even funny. The rocoil is massive. Fire it once it flies up in the air and takes a good second or two to settle. And it takes two hits to kill someone. Meaning even if their back is to you. You need to hit them once, wait for the gun to settle, then hit them again while they are still in the red. Try doing that against someone.

Steady aim does nothing. Neither does rapidly pressing the fire button as all that happens is after the first shot the gun is firing in the air above the guy ala pulp fiction style.

Perhaps I'll try using the USP to just finish people off then. Might take a little longer but I'll get there.

Two head shots with the handguns? Or one? Don't tell me it's three?!?

Don't know about headshots.

You just need to get to level 5 when Akimbo is locked and it makes this less rageworthy.

What I was curious about - and it would help if someone confirmed this - if you use the support package and get that rubbish Juggernaut that uses the handgun as opposed to the LMG you get in the Assault package, does those kills count towards the USP?

If they do use this to get to level 5 then unlock Akimbo.

Will work for the USP but there are 6 handguns if you want 60k.

Handguns are so useless you might as well switch to your knife and stab the enemy as those also count towards your Handgun kills...

Do they? are you 100% sure on this, as I was curious on this too but I thought it may be that you need to have the Tactical knife equipped (you get this at level 7).

I can't post it from work but OnlyUseMeBlade did a youtube video on how to get Akimbo USPs without shooting.

Should come up as a link if you google "Akimbo USPs without shooting"

Does it work? I couldn't remember whether he had used a Default with Tac Knife class initially...

Yes, if you have a buddy who will blow himself so you can use his tac knife

Ah right, my memory let me down there then

Yep, he's using a tactical knife in that vid. Never really got on with tactical knives, or melee attacks in general in COD games. Always change the layout to tactical and then find the melee button is too far away to use effectively, unlike the R3 default.

As long as I end my games tonight with at least a 1:5 KDR I'll persist with the handguns.

Deagles are terrible... you have to overly compensate by aiming down as soon as you fire the first shot to try and keep the rest on target.

Getting the hang of the deagle now! Great feeling just getting the specialist bonus using the buggerr. The 2nd kill in this vid helps with the natural bullet spread of this gun. As said the sight always kicks up when squeezing the trigger so aim for the chest to get the natural kick to end in a headshot. 1 in the chest then shoulder and 3 in the head :D

The reason it kicks is because its very powerful if on target
