Released this Monday 18th April

As well as fixing a lot of the cheats and glitches it also re-balances some weapons.
    Read here
Certainly includes a lot more than I thought it would :)
They will also be resetting the stats within the next few weeks.

The new maps will be within the next two weeks according to Bungie, it's at this time that they plan on resetting the rankings as well.
I still play this game a lot, almost continually, so I shall more than likely pay for the other maps.

tried to get downloadable content at lunchtime and it still wasnt available.

the changes are to fix standby and other gliches (including sword dash!) etc etc and also there is a few changes to weapon balancing: frag grenades being more deadly and with a shorter fuse, magnum being less powerful and a loads more i cant remember

    anyone downloaded the update yet??

    Blatantly cut'n'pasted from Bungie.net:

The first batch of new, downloadable Halo 2 multiplayer maps will be available on Monday April 25th for download on Xbox Live. Woot! The maps passed through Microsoft's certification process successfully today, which was all we were waiting for! We said we'd tell you as soon as we could, and we found out about an hour ago that they'd passed with flying colors.

The Bonus Pack - comprised of Containment and Warlock, is free. Log into Xbox Live, go to the download content menu item and get 'em. The Killtacular Pack, comprised of Turf and Sanctuary, is $5.99 US (local prices will vary by country) but for the patient, it too will be available for free on June 28th .

The maps will be available in custom games immediately, and in Matchmaking some time soon after. We'll bring you news on the Matchmaking playlists update shortly.

    BONUS PACK! (Free!)

    CONTAINMENT

A massive, mostly outdoor, and somewhat symmetrical environment set in the frozen tundra near Sentinel Wall, on Delta Halo. The icy terrain is a walled valley floor, scarred by a massive trench, running between two enormous Forerunner compounds. Each of these structures acts as a base, and each base is itself large enough to drive a vehicle around in.

The bases contain a heavily fortified flag capture point which presents a tough challenge for an unorganized offense. To even the odds, it's possible to open vehicle access to these bases by activating a switch - exposed to sniper fire in the center of the map. Above this switch is the teleport exit for each base.

The rapid access enabled using teleporters and vehicles means that while this is by far one of the largest Halo maps ever, it's also one with a large number of transit options, on foot or in vehicles.

Caves, ridges and tunnels provide stealthy entrance to enemy bases, while the jagged central trench is a great spot to take cover. Above, the exposed, icy fields are littered with the most explosive cores in the game. Default vehicles include Hogs, Scorpion tanks and Banshees. Containment was built from the ground up, with large scale objective games in mind, especially CTF. If you like Coagulation, and were a fan of Sidewinder, you'll love Containment! You can see a cool 3D screenshot of Containment HERE!

    WARLOCK

Set in the rain-soaked ruins of an ancient Forerunner structure, nobody knows if Warlock is a temple, a castle or even a dwelling. What we do know is that the architecture predates the Halo itself, and that it must have been moved here, brick by brick, with obvious reverence by the Forerunners themselves.

A small to medium sized map, Warlock is ideal for close-quarters fights, Slayer matches and thanks to its four way symmetry, multi-team Territories battles. Warlock's mix of obstacles and open areas makes it a perfect spot for more chaotic matches like Rockets. Sharp-eyed players may note its resemblance to the map Wizard, although it has been rebuilt from the ground up to take advantage of Halo 2's new graphics and gameplay features.

Warlock is filled with nooks, crannies and other hiding places, and while the ground is a warren of obstacles, it's possible to reach any other point in the map by taking the high road - a series of platforms and ramps that stretch across the map, with a temple-like center structure dominating the arena.

Teleporters dot the walls allowing you to evade pursuing enemies, or take instant shortcuts across the map. You can see a cool 3D screenshot of Warlock HERE!

    KILLTACULAR PACK! ($5.99 US)

    TURF

The surrounding streets and evacuated buildings of Old Mombasa make it a dangerous warren, with potential assassins lurking in every shadow and around every corner. Dusty storefronts hide mazelike interiors, and narrow walkways above street level make this shadowy part of town a sniper's haven.

Although it was designed primarily with Territories and CTF in mind, Turf's wildly varying situations - open streets, large buildings, narrow passageways - mean that it's surprisingly flexible. In spite of its size and complexity, the level even works well as a cat and mouse one-on-one map.

Although the tight alleys and streets are initially confusing, there are plenty of vital landmarks - a downed Covenant Scarab, a makeshift Human military base and a massive warehouse, complete with huge swinging doors. Players can knock down catwalks to control ledges above the streets, and a well-parked Warthog can lay down covering fire for the team quick enough to grab it.

    SANCTUARY

A walled grotto defines the center point of this Forerunner habitat, from which aqueducts span out, like the hands of a clock. It perfectly obscures a clear line of sight between two more robust temple buildings primarily used as Flag capture bases.

The map was designed to be perfectly symmetrical and used for smaller, team based objective games, like CTF and Assault, but its size and layout also make it a perfect spot for Slayer matches and slightly more frenetic types like Territories and Oddball. The tunnels at the sides and the open areas in front of the bases make for frantic firefights and nerve-wracking chases.

Stop for a moment to admire the scenery and you'll see a complicated system of waterfalls, canals and pools. Splashing water and the chirp of birds help define the sound scheme of this otherwise peaceful environment.

Larger versions of these images have been added to the Halo 2 Screenshot gallery.

    Sounds good.

Autoupdate seemed to have worked well. Laggy at first but that eventually disappeared and no cheating, well not last night anyway.

Will be either £3 or £5 for the two premium maps IMO. It's $6 in the US, which is just over £3 in our money, so it depends if Bungie want to milk the UK like most game makers do, or if they feel sorry for us.

Im going to try to get back into Halo 2, the last time I was on an american guy was running around with a pistol (the glowing green one) on full charge but if anyone got near him you heard a shotgun sound and were literally flipped backwards dead in one shot ?? I assume this was a cheat although I hav'nt seen any details of this before ??

Anyway, my question is will you be able to play even if you dont have the new maps, im assuming you will and its not going to be like Ghost Recon 2. It will just be the case that you can only play cetain games. You'll get dumped out if you travel around and the group wants to play on a map you dont have.

I noticed that as well nero.
It does say they are available now but they definitely aren't there, typical of M$.
Tomorrow's the day :) around late afternoon for us (allegedly) just a shame that it's a couple of weeks until they are incorporated into matchmaking.

    Out now. :)
Payable two are £2.99 for both, which is a bit cheaper than I thought they would be.

Obviously I will be on all night playing these with my mates :) I would have liked to see some new weapons, vehicles and player skins though.

I dont think they realise how much demand there is for this stuff. Its the way to further build the community and keep people interested.

Yes have to agree new skins are a great way to add fun to a game - just look at the Ghost recon 2 FREE dloads loads of new skins on them - the latest ones have some really fun comedy skins, pink bunny man suits, pirate with a peg leg etc etc.

    Excellent maps.
Containment is my favourite so far with Turf a close second.

So there's a chance that I could actually get near enough someone to shoot them?

The new maps are brilliant. We had some seriously good rucks on Containment. 16 player CTF on that level is awesome

Some of the graphics are really really good on these new maps. Its amazing to see what the xbox can actually turn out.

I have just bought one of these so my Xbox can return to the games room and the projector :

    http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=1806

This means I will be on Live a lot more than i am currently. See you on there :) No more crappy wireless and I can actually use it in the loft. I cant wait.

Just read about the MicroLink on the other thread on here. Sounds a superb idea to me.
Let us know how you get on.
I'll see you on XBL soon then :)

Also really enjoying the maps and the patch has made a huge difference. I haven't seen any evidence of cheating at all since it was released, everyone seems to be trying so much harder to win now leading to some very tense games.
Had some fantastic games last night, particularly on Headlong and Zanzibar playing CTF - total carnage when the flag got outside of the base.
Once the ranks are reset and the new playlists released (particularly like the sound of Double Team) in a couple of weeks, I'm sure it will be even better :)

Its an interesting point that. My friends and I have noticed its much eaiser to win games now, presumably because they have got rid of all the map and weapons glitches (Sword / Rocket etc)

Its all good stuff. They are building up a nice little community on there now. Well not so little there are over 1 Million active players on Halo 2 on live apparently

Will report my findings on this new mains ethernet access device when I get it. Its got extremely good write ups and could be the answer to my prayers. Wireless for online gamming just dosnt work in my experience, well not in an old house with thick brick walls and on a different floor through steel beams etc.....

    Maybe I'm getting worse :)
Could also be what ranks you are being matched against, assuming that you are playing Matchmaking.
I'm only a 13 but the last few times I have played there have been 20's in the game and I have been walloped to put it politely.
