MAn this game is soo good i almost dont wanna play it!! cos i dont want it to end!! :D :D :D

i have it running at 1600x 1200 no sweat and it is frankly SUPERB!!!

one question , is it possible to play offline when you have an internet(cable) connection.

to get it running super smooth i turn off my firewall, ad prog and virus checker so naturally i dont wanna be online, but it always connects

at the moment im getting round it by pulling the ethernet cable out but its a bit of a FAFF!!

DOOM 3 was the Starter THIS IS THE MAIN COURSE!!!

can you tell im happy?? :D

well i've got Norton internet security 2005 and it asked me if i wanted to block it from accessing the internet, to which i said yes, block permanently, so now as far as HL2 knows, i have no internet connection.

If you want to play it without connecting to the internet just start up your computer without connecting to the net, Steam will then give you two options and just choose Offline Mode and you will be able to run the game without connecting to the net and without having to unplug the cable.

Nortin Firewall 2003 gave me the option to block HL2 but not Steam which went to automatic without asking so I blocked it manually. That way things don't get loaded on my machine without me knowing.

if you choose to play offline it said for me that the game was not backed up onnmy system even though it had?in the end i just connect to the internet, start hl2 and when it says hl2 is starting i just disconnect from the net, easy, and the game is superb, check out the guard uniforms up close, the shine on the leather, the reflecion in the goggles, glasses etc.outstanding.

if you're on cable modem you automatically connect (i.e. you never physically tell the machine to connect to the net - you are always on) and the only way to stop it is to either pull out the RJ-45 cable or disable the connection in network places. The thing is though - even if you play offline you still get bloody steam running in the background which uses up about 8 meg of your valuable memory resources! Shame you can't shut this down full stop & just play the game as a completely stand alone title.

I don't personally as i'm always connected anyway and I only use my dektop for gaming. Not a problem for me.

It's a shame that you have to have Steam running though as it uses up resources.
