Does anyone have the definitive answer for when this will be released?

The publisher announced it was delayed, which seemed to be news to Valve. But then the delay seemed to be confirmed. But recent magazines and a few websites seem to say it isn't delayed.

Meanwhile play.com and amazon.co.uk both show a release date of 30/9.

So who is right? When is gaming nirvana finally going to arrive?

Gaming Nirvana will arrive when Deus Ex 2 is released, and after that, Armed and Dangerous. However, It would appear that Sept 30th is the release date for Half Life 2.

    Thanks for the info.

If Deus Ex 2 used the source engine, then it might be up there... I never could get into the original, it just didn't do it for me.

But Half Life.... Now THERE was a game that grabbed you.

The official date is still 30/9 however I like many people are very sceptical when it comes to valves release dates.

TF2 - 4/5 years late, still not here. (despite winning numerous Best Game awards and no one's even played it yet!)
    CS:CZ - 1 year late and counting.

To be honest I don't see how they could get it out for 30/9 now, i've yet to hear that it's been finished and they still have to press all the disks, package it up and ship it round the world.

I'd still like to think it will come out on time but I doubt it, and based on past announcements by valve I wouldn't be suprised if we never see it.

I'm not placing an order until we get official word that its ready to buy on the 30th, or whichever date it finaly comes out, i've seen some mentioning November.

While Amazon and Play still seem to believe the 30th Sept release date, HMV have gone all pessimistic and say 28th Nov!

I'm going to bury my head in Counter Strike and wait for the thing to actually be released before I commit to buying it. Especially with this talk about different kinds of ways to buy it (single player only, multi without update, multi with updates...).
Hmmm, haven't played Deus Ex in a while, maybe I'll go and finish that while waiting :D

At least Homeworld 2 will be released shortly, I know it is not a FPS, but after playing the demo I am convinced this will be one of the best games on the PC this year :)

Valves forcasted release dates are one of the worst ever :)

Maybe we should start getting a little more optimistic, it would appear benchmarks have started to appear and there should be more out today.

Perhaps they will get it out on time.
With a bit of luck they'll stick TF2 in to it as well! ;)

I am sure Half Life will be out on time.

    Squiffy:
The engine for Deus Ex 2 looks to be sufficiently advanced to do the game justice.
The graphics on the original Deus Ex were a bit poor, but that doesn't make it a poor game! Deus Ex had a depth of gameplay that was missing from Halflife, good though that game was. I admitthe first couple of levels on Deus Ex weren't the best, though.

    Sinzer:
Homeworld 2 looks to be a good'un too. The original was one of the best RTS games ever, and the sequel looks to repeat that.

    Mr The spoon:
Deus Ex is most certainly worth a re-visit; it is one of the reasons why I am waiting for the sequel above all others. It is the imagination and story in games like Deus Ex, Giants Citizen Kabuto etc. that made Halo a bland experience for me. Frankly I am not so sure Halo will stand up to some of the other newer releases on PC. Not that I am a PC Elitist, it's just that I thought Halo was a bit average.

So if you have any Nvidia hardware, and want to run Half Life 2, you will need to run the game without DirectX 9 optimisations. Otherwise it'll run at sub 30fps.

Or buy a superior ATI card, one of the two.

I don't think there's any chance of that whatsoever. I do think it will slip to November though.

Yeah I really got into the story behind Deus Ex. Also I'd recently read The Illuminatus! Trilogy so I was all paranoid anyway. Fnord.

The only problem was as I hate to waste a game, I'd explore the whole of each level, finding all the hidden things, trying to get the best weapons etc. Took me forever to finish each level!

Not really a problem, just time consuming to the addictive level.

Newell has been talking recently of different versions of HL2. Single Player, Multiplayer and Moddable, or something similar. Since Valve are heavily into their Steam thing for delivering online content it may be that the September 30th date is for the online rollout since it would be easier to distribute and negate packaging, pressing etc. Funny though that Valve are still sticking to 30/9 whereas Vivendi are the ones talking up the holiday season!

I severly doubt they will use Steam to deliver HL2, I am trying to use Steam now and it is the biggest pile of poo at the moment.

Currently cannot get it to work and because everything has to be launched with an online check I cannot launch HL or CS just to try and play.

There are huge problems with Steam at the moment and I can imagine it will take a while before they are sorted.
